Yoss Hoffman: 'I say what I think and I stand up for it'

10/31/2018

The Fifth article in our column dedicated to influencers is about the delightful transgressions of Yoss Hoffman.

From today, Hostelsclub's blog hosts a new column dedicated to influencers, entitled 'The Sixth Power'. We are going to hear what they have to say, listen to their stories and discover their way of life. Many people would love to be like them, and influencers are one of the latest and most coveted professions. Their following, in some cases, exceeds the influence of the Heads of State. The Californian Kourtney Kardashian with 67.3 million followers has more followers than the number of votes that led Donald Trump to the post of President of the United States of America in 2016. The Italian Chiara Ferragni, before getting 15 million followers on Instagram and a worldwide fame, was just a beautiful blonde girl. They're millionaires, but what exactly do they do? We'll find out, giving a voice to travel bloggers in particular. It is certain that their ability to influence is such that international brands rely on them by showering them with gold. Ten years ago, brands turned to televisions and newspapers, columns of modern media power. Now they rely on Influencers. Television was called the fifth power, but are influencers the sixth power? From this question, the title of this column was born. There will be many good tips for those with attentive ears. On the other hand, it seems that it doesn't take much to become an influencer: a social profile, a little work and lots of imagination.

#5 Yoss Hoffman: 'I say what I think and I stand up for it'

The protagonist of this week's column is Yoss Hoffman, a young Mexican influencer. With a complex personality - part actor, part singer - she is above all, a social phenomenon. Her career started on TV, but she broke through into social media with videos and photos the mix comedy and parody with a splash of irreverence. Yoss enjoys breaking paradigms and her audacity is the main reason for her popularity: she has the support of 8 million followers on her YouTube channel (YosStop), and 6 million on her Instagram profile (@justYoss). We've decided to get to know her a little better so we can show you that Yoss doesn't just freely express her ideas, but she also stands up for them.

It has been said that influencers are those who have ideas because only an idea can be influential. What are the ideas that you try to portray through your profile? Tell us!

Everyone has ideas, but not all ideas are valid. More than ideas I like to portray different feelings, from joy and fun to identification with my fans through vlogs and reflection through analysis and criticism... and in general, I don't want to just entertain my followers, but also leave something useful for their lives.

How do you decide which aspects of yourself, your experiences and your trips to show to your followers? Do you tell your followers everything about yourself?

I am a very transparent person but in the end, nobody gets to know you completely, not even your friends and sometimes not even yourself. But I share a lot of my life, I say what I think and I stand up for it.

Where do you get your inspiration for your pictures and videos?

I am inspired by my personality and in the end, I have photos of different styles. However, there are some with which I identify with more. Photos and videos go hand in hand with the stage of my life I am in and of course, I share the travels and adventures that I experience with my followers.

How did you find out about the professional use of social media platforms and what pushed you to invest your time in them and to pursue a career through them? What convinced you to put yourself out there? How often do you get to travel?

I discovered the use of networks as an influencer after working on television: I wanted to create content on my own without anyone telling me what I had to do or say. I liked it a lot, I poured all my passion and enthusiasm into it and through constant work, I was able to make it become my job. I am lucky that I can now travel often, however this year I've decided to take a bit of a break because I needed time home with my family and I have some stability.

Do you enjoy being in the public eye? Do you think this will be your profession forever? How do you imagine your professional future?

Sometimes I enjoy it, sometimes not so much. I am annoyed by disrespectful and rude people who stop seeing you as a human being. I don't know if this will be my profession forever, but I think I will always be in the media in some way. My future is uncertain, the things I am doing today are done well, and I am sure that in one way or another the future will always be good, so I don't worry, I will adapt to the changes that come my way.

We're always promoting how great hostels are, but can you tell us what your favourite thing about hostels and the hostel culture is?

I love the fact that you can meet people in a simple and direct way, I love the atmosphere in the communal areas of hostels, even if a private room is sacred for my privacy so when I stay in hostels, I always book a private room.
