The Oktoberfest is the largest folk festival in the world and was celebrated for the first time in 1810, when the Bavarians celebrated Crown Prince Ludwig's marriage. Since then, it has become a two-week festival with nearly 6 million visitors coming for the beer, music and festive atmosphere.

When it comes to beer gardens, Bavaria is a world leader: there are more than 180 beer gardens in and around the gates of Munich, with space for 180,000 visitors.
