We are going to talk about this amazing network called Tik Tok and how to start making travel content but first let's understand the current situation. The immense amount of social media platforms that drive us to consume content and be aware of everything that happens around us is increasing.

Apparently, Instagram is not enough to satisfy our hunger for exposing our lives. Neither was Facebook in its golden moment back in the 2000’s when the urge to communicate between friends was on fire.

Oh, hold on. New on Tik Tok? Not part of the millennial generation or Z? Ok, we will explain quickly. Tik Tok is a dynamic and fast social network in which its net content is audiovisual. Users from all over the world record videos of jokes, dance or cooking (among their most popular themes) trying to capture the attention of viewers.

But, this is where it gets interesting. Tik Tok started to kick off and found its own way. It started showing more and more variety of content, giving rise to recipes, stand ups, tutorials and travel scenes in short format.

Nowadays, there’s room for travel lovers on Tik Tok. A specific group of people who love to tell stories so that audiences from all over the world travel virtually with them.

Why is Tik Tok growing so much?

In the last couple of months, Tik Tok has positioned itself as the perfect medium to broadcast videos that awaken the #wanderlust spirit. Why? To begin with, it allows creators to access different audiences, generally younger than their followers on other platforms.

Plus, it engages: the videos don't have as much intro and editing as those found on YouTube. In this way it allows you access to be simpler cropped scenes that show just enough to leave you wanting more.

Not only young creatives are those who promote the topic but also companies or travel agencies which may give you sponsors or propose virtual challenges to encourage people.

For example, the challenge proposed by Tourism of Dubai, invited people to represent a view of the city from the window of an airplane. Within minutes, hundreds of users began uploading videos "peeking" through their washing machine or simulating a first-class trip from their home landing.

And then, we have data. For example, according to a conducted servey in Spain by TikTok among 504 Spanish users between the ages of 18 and 35, 82% of Spanish tiktokers admit that they rely on the photos and videos they see on social media to choose their holiday destination.

During the lockdown, the options for traveling from home have multiplied, with TikTok being one of the best shortcuts to succumb to the wanderlust spirit that is so missed.

How to really start uploading travel content on Tik Tok?

It’s not something very complicated to do if you are part of the current generation. In any case, we will give you the steps that we believe are most important on how to create your first travel videos on Tik Tok.

What are you going to talk about?

The first step is to define what you want to communicate. Are you going to tell your travel stories? Maybe one of the main destinations that you would like to visit? What theme? This step’s fundamental since it will be the base of your content, the niche that will get people’s attention.

Write what you are going to say?

It is crucial to do some kind of script. Remember that people follow you because of the things you say and how you say them. It is not something to underestimate. Write down the main ideas but only the information that you think is most important. Remember that the attention rate in Tik Tok is low, therefore you must capture the public’s attention right away.

Find the ideal context

The third step is to find the most recording-worthy situation for that idea. For example, if you want to talk about the "cheapest countries in the world" you can choose a quiet place in your room with good light because you can hardly travel to all those places just to record a 15-second video. On the other hand, if you want to talk about nature, you can choose a corner of your patio that has trees or else go to the closest square in your neighborhood.

Film yourself

The fourth step is to record yourself. It seems the simplest but this is when you will bring to life what everyone will see on their phones later. You can record everything in a row without stopping or use an editing app. In this way you can give your videos a fast-paced rhythm.

Upload it

The fifth step is just to upload your content to the social network. Here you can add some things so that your video is better positioned and recognized by the algorithm. Add hashtags related to the topic of your video and a short description of it. In fact, you can add a question to your audience to get them to comment on your video.

Social networks can have many disadvantages but if there is something they have, it is freedom. When creating you may mix a little creativity to differentiate yourself from the masses.
