The Sixth Power is the new weekly column dedicated to emerging or already established influencers. Each week there will be a new interview with an influencer, this week we have spoken to Monelle Chiti.
From today, Hostelsclub's blog hosts a new column dedicated to influencers, entitled 'The Sixth Power'. We are going to hear what they have to say, listen to their stories and discover their way of life. Many people would love to be like them, and influencers are one of the latest and most coveted professions. Their following, in some cases, exceeds the influence of the Heads of State. The Californian Kourtney Kardashian with 67.3 million followers has more followers than the number of votes that led Donald Trump to the post of President of the United States of America in 2016. The Italian Chiara Ferragni, before getting 15 million followers on Instagram and a worldwide fame, was just a beautiful blonde girl. They're millionaires, but what exactly do they do? We'll find out, giving a voice to travel bloggers in particular. It is certain that their ability to influence is such that international brands rely on them by showering them with gold. Ten years ago, brands turned to televisions and newspapers, columns of modern media power. Now they rely on them. Television was called the fifth power, but is the sixth power influencers? From this question, the title of this column was born. There will be many good tips for those with attentive ears. On the other hand, it seems that it doesn't take much to become an influencer: a social profile, a little work and lots of imagination.
#3 Monelle Chiti: I show what I like, not what's in fashion
The protagonist of this third episode of Sixth Power is Monelle Chiti. A well-known Italian influencer and fashion traveller with a recent past in the world of journalism. She is free, energetic, and lives a rock and roll lifestyle, but she is also extraordinarily sincere. This perhaps is more than just an attitude, but a rare is talent in the world in which she works. Just read the following interview to find out. Vivacity and irony emerge from her story. The latter is a weapon against the predictability of everyday life, but also a signature, an element of truth, which shines beyond the things shown in her pictures and pervades much of the narration. The figure of Monelle is the personality. She started by taking photos of concerts, she says, until she decided to show herself. For us, she has succeeded, on both sides of the camera. You just have to listen.
It has been said that influencers are those who have a precise idea and carry it forward.
If influencers were those who have an idea I think every person in the world would be an influencer, especially artists, creators and creatives. As for me, the idea that I always carry forward is the same: to be myself and talk about what I really feel and represents to me, whether it a food, a dress or a concert.
For you, who is an influencer?
An Influencer is someone who works to take the ideas of others forward. We do not create products, we simply spread ideas by putting our faces on them. It is true that the composition of the images, however, is up to us, and in my case, it is I who decides locations, looks and colours.
How did you start?
I have been a photographer for concerts and musicians since I was 22 and I published my photos on Flickr. I was always around for events and from there I started to sell the photos and work with newspapers. I did a job for a well-known beauty brand and then other brands called me to be their photographer. Then from 2009 blogging came to Italy and seeing as I had always loved writing, I opened one in 2011 to display my photos because at that time it was not yet clear which of the social networks would take over others.
Then, you put your face on it.
I then started to literally put my face to it because many people always told me that I dressed well and with style, and so I started to show my looks on the blog and went in front of the lens when, for years, photographically speaking, I used to stand on the opposite side! Nobody had to convince me, it was simply the flow of things, the desire to change and do something new. I would say that it went well and now, here I am!
A job in all respects?
Yes, I would say I'm happy to do a job that I love, mainly because I can't imagine my life without taking pictures. Whether I'm in front or behind a camera does not matter, photography has always been part of my life and I'm happy to have been lucky enough to call it enough.
Do you think it's the work of the future?
I don't know if this will always be my job. Also because it's not a job that depends just on myself, but also on the evolution of the digital world, on social networks, from companies, etc. Years ago doing such a job would not have even passed through my mind, and it didn't even exist in Italy!
Where was your last trip to?
Recently I was in Spain and I took a trip to discover the beauties of Andalusia. I am a lover of landscapes and unspoiled nature. So I show what I like and certainly not because it's in fashion or because it pleases people.
This section will be translated into the main languages among the 26 of our blog. If you are an influencer you want to tell us your story write to us, we will evaluate your proposal and perhaps the prosecution of The Sixth Power will talk about you!
