What if hostels were the low-cost option to kick off New Year in the best way while travelling?

Have you ever thought about celebrating New Year in a hostel in Amsterdam? If it might just seem hard to believe it, well, there is always a first time for everything, isn’t there?

You must know that many hostels worldwide organize parties and events, sometimes pretty crowded, especially for New Year; we are not saying to snob the main official events taking place in city squares, in this case, Dam Square, but rather suggesting to think outside the box and to keep in mind there are also many other options.

WHY CELEBRATE NEW YEAR IN A HOSTEL

To celebrate New Year in a hostel in Amsterdam is definitely a must try experience, especially if you can count on such hostels like The Bulldog, that yearly put altogether a massive firework show right outside the popular coffee shop with the same name.

What’s all the excitement about celebrating NYE in a Hostel?

It’s surely a way to mingle with new international like-minded travelers, to share such a special moment with girls and guys of every age, to feel exactly the same ones by overcoming any language barriers, since the most important aspects of the night is to wish the best for each other for the next coming year: no languages skills are required for such a thing, just a smile and a midnight toast.

Ecomama hostel, in fact, follows this exactly philosophy and doesn't accept group bookings in order to give travellers the possibility to meet new people.

Moreover, Ecomama hostel organizes a dinner, a cocktail happy hour right after dinner and after the fireworks, there is a huge party at Club Air till 5 in the morning.

Cocomama is also organizing a dinner and a cocktail party, with some drinking games. After fireworks, then, the appointment is at the Club Air.

Dutch sweets

On New Year, you cannot but taste some of the Festive Season’s typical cakes: Oliebollen (sweet bagels covered in delicious powdered sugar) and Appelflappen (mouth-watering apple fried doughs). There are no excuses not to try such delicatessen: it’s going to be cold in Amsterdam and this requires spare energy. Let’s think about good resolution for a healthier diet after Carnival!

As well as central Dam Square, Rembrandtplein and Nieuwmarket are also noteworthy for their popular midnight firework shows, keeping everybody’s nose up. Alternatively, you can also head to Museumplein, where several interesting entertainment events are also taking place, including live music to keep you dancing all night long.

For after midnight events, opt for one of the several pubs and bar scattered around Amsterdam, the final stop for many, before heading home but not before sunrise.

Our piece of advice for those not into crowded places is to enjoy fireworks from Amsterdam bridges!

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR AN AMSTERDAM HOSTEL FOR NEW YEAR?

Have a look at Hostel Cosmos Amsterdam and Amsterdam Hostel Annemarie. They are both located near the Van Gogh Museum and you can kill two birds with one stone…. You are not going to Amsterdam to see the fireworks only, are you?
