5 destinations for first-time backpackers

07/20/2015

So you've decided to take your journey of a life-time and can't wait to book flights, pack your bags and travel the world?

Congratulations for your great decision to explore the unknown! Or, if you're still in doubt why to go backpacking, here are a few awesome reasons. Once you've decided to see what the world has to offer to you, choosing the right destination is one of the matters to consider carefully. Whether you're traveling solo, with friends or as a couple, here we collected five of our favorite travel destinations around the globe to start with:

1. ICELAND

Reykjavk, Iceland

The cool and calm Iceland is a relatively small island and fast to cross in a few days. Situated within an easy access and being extremely safe country, Iceland offers one of the most breathtaking landscapes, including occasionally spouting hot springs known as geysers. And moreover, in the capital Reykjavik you'll have lots and lots of parties and festivals to attend!

2. SCOTLAND

Scotland

Even if you wouldn't considerer Scotland as a country for low cost traveling, it offers quality, safety and some of the most beautiful natural and man-made sceneries in Europe. Don't miss at least Glasgow and Edinburgh, which are both charming cities with their Scottish heritage and traditions. And while you're there, remember to try haggis, a typical savoury pudding containing sheep's pluck!

3. THAILAND

Phuket Thailand

Being a well appreciated backpacker destination already for decades, the land of smiles keeps charming with its exotic culture, delicious cuisine and stunning, mind-blowing beaches. Thailand is one of the easiest and most variable starting points for your backpacking journey, whether you're dreaming of taking a gap year or simply explore the Southeast Asian hospitality.

4. JAPAN

Kyoto, Japan

Despite being an incredible country and most likely causing a great culture shock at some point, there are plenty of reasons why so many people have totally fallen in love with Japan. And if you thought it's expensive for a backpacker on a budget - think again! An average dorm in a good location costs around 19 euros and is often situated in a good location.

5. MEXICO

Chichen Itza Mexico

Believe it or not - Mexico is not as dangerous as it's general reputation seems. It is a huge country and for example the Yucatan Peninsula and Riviera Maya and the Caribbean coast offer a safe and sunny break for your Mexican vacation. If you wish to combine a beach holiday with vibrant nightlife and a hint of the ancient Maya culture, head for example to the beach paradise of Playa del Carmen.

All in all, wherever you decide to go, be prepared to get lost and maybe even feel insecure at some point. This is all normal and there's no need to start panicking for your own genuine feelings and emotions. Besides all the joy, relaxing and exploring new places, traveling is also all about challenging yourself and discovering new sides of yourself.

Good luck for your very first backbacking journey!
