Travelling and Chromotherapy

11/13/2018

A journey across the world taking you to 5 cities painted in unique colours that will make you feel better!

Have you ever heard of Chromotherapy? It is an alternative medicine that aims to combat discomfort and anxiety through the use of colours. It is said that each colour has an impact on the psyche and the body and that the conscious use of the right colours has been said to bring great benefits.

But is it possible to combine chromotherapy and travel? We believe so, and we've even compiled a list of colourful cities, a rainbow itinerary that will surely make you feel better ... so whether or not you believe in the positive effects of chromotherapy, we can guarantee that these cities are so beautiful and particular that at least they will fill your eyes with wonder! :)

The BLUEST city in Morocco: Chefchaouen

Blue

We have already talked about Chefchaouen in our blog, but it is such an incredible city that we are happy to come back to it again. It's a small town located in northern Morocco, in an isolated mountainous area (the Rif). It's a hidden treasure characterized by a historic centre where everything is tinged with blue (a religious symbol of purity): alleys, buildings, fixtures, arches ... everything is blue, so we suggest you come here if you are an irritable, anxious person, or if you suffer from insomnia. In fact, blue is a relaxing colour, ideal for those who want a stress-free vacation!

The RED city of Morocco: Marrakesh

Red

We remain in Morocco, but we can travel to the well-known imperial city of Marrakech. We have also already talked about this destination in our blog (take a look at the article on the 6 reasons to visit it), but now we're coming back because of its nickname: it is, in fact, known as the "red city" (or the "belle ville rouge") due to the red-ocher colour that characterizes most of its buildings. It is, therefore, a destination perfect for those who are experiencing a period of great fatigue, or even a depressive state. Red is, in fact, the colour of passion and strength and will help you to feel full of energy, stimulating your nerve centres and making you more sociable and open. Throw yourself into the chaos of Jemaa el Fna square at sunset and you will see that your batteries will recharge in a flash! ;)

The WHITE city of Puglia: Ostuni

White

Ostuni is the main tourist destination in the Province of Brindisi and is a must for those who are passing through the Val d'Itria and the Alto Salento. It is a destination that has so much to offer: excellent cuisine (you absolutely must try the local speciality, fava beans and chicory!), Beautiful coasts (it is the resort with the cleanest sea and the best services of all of Puglia) and an enchanting historic centre of buildings painted entirely with white lime. Approaching the city there will be a glimpse of this white village, with its intricate maze of narrow streets, alleys and squares. White is more than a colour, it is the sum of all colours, so Ostuni is the perfect destination for those looking for purity, simplicity and innocence. Come here if you are in a phase of transition in your life and you'll see that the white of the city will indicate where to find the light!

The YELLOW city of Mexico: Izamal

Yellow

Mexico has 35 cities considered "magical" and one of these is in Yucatán, 45 minutes from Merida. But what makes Izamal magical? The answer is easy, just enter the city and you will immediately notice that it is painted completely in yellow ... all the colonial buildings, the market, the huge convent - just everything! The centre is well cared for and worth visiting, including cobblestone streets, wrought-iron street lamps and an intriguing crossroads of cultures, including ancient Mayan influences, elements that recall the colonial era and more modern and contemporary corners. Yellow is the colour of the sun and has many precious virtues: regenerate, rebalance, and it stimulates concentration and improves your mood! So come to Izamal if you want to go back to feeling happy after a difficult period of your life.

The PINK city of India: Jaipur

Brown

Finally, we can go to India and here were also find ourselves in a historical centre painted completely in one colour: we are talking about Jaipur and the colour is pink. The reason for this choice dates back to 1876, under the reign of Sawai Ram Singh I: the city was painted in pink upon his request to welcome the Prince of Wales, and later Edward VII. Since then many of the city's avenues have been painted in pink, making it a truly unique destination of the world. Pink is a colour famous for relieving the labours of the mind and is said to be able to ward off bad thoughts. It is also a symbol of love and openness towards others, so come to Jaipur if you are looking for some emotional balance.

Those were the 5 monochromatic cities that we selected for you, but if what you are looking for a place that is full of colours, destinations that will offer you a real rainbow of colours? We have the answer.

For example, the historic centre of Copenhagen is colourful and strolling along the banks of the Nyhavn area, passing from one bar to another and admiring the moored boats is really enjoyable.

Copenhagen

Then there is San Francisco, where it is definitely worth a visit to the Painted Ladies area, full of Victorian style villas painted in a beautiful range of pastel colours.

San Fran

And finally there is Burano, an enchanting little island about 30 minutes from Venice, famous all over the world for its colourful houses ... if you love bright colours, this is your paradise on earth. And if you visit here remember to buy some lace (the artisanal speciality produced on the island, and you can also visit the museum dedicated to this art) and buy a bag of "bussolà", delicious egg pastry biscuits typical of the island (we believe the best ones are from the Carmelina Palmisano).

Burano

Our chromotherapeutic journey ends here: whatever colour is best for you, the important thing is to start ... because after all, when we travel we feel good, so we should simply do it more often! :)
