The Bloemenmarkt is Amsterdam's famous floating flower market, located on the banks of the Singel canal, right in the city center. It is open from Monday to Saturday and it's a real paradise for sight and smell, with its rainbow of colors and the intense aroma that pervades it. Since 1862 it is an attraction not only for tourists, but also for the Dutch who come here to find and marvel at the best flowers and bulbs. The barges of the market also host small greenhouses, a sort of miniatures of those found in the Dutch countryside.
The Waterlooplein Flea Market is the oldest and most famous in Amsterdam. It is also very popular with locals and it's open from Monday to Saturday from 9.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. Visit it and you will really find everything from shoes, clothes, handbags, hats to designer items and other knick-knacks. A true paradise for vintage shopping fans!
De Kas restaurant is located inside the Frankendael park, in a large 8-meter high structure entirely built in iron and glass. The building dates back to 1926 and once housed the municipal nurseries: it has now been completely renovated and has become the home of one of the most original and beloved Dutch restaurants. Its formula is simple: the menu is completely based on the harvest of its botanical garden, with a careful selection of organic and absolutely "kilometer 0" food. We recommend you to visit it for lunch, both to enjoy the beautiful light and the view on the garden, and because the "Lunch menu" is more affordable (3 courses for €32, 4 courses for € 42)
The American Book Center is a beautiful bookstore specializing in English books (we also talked about it in a previous article dedicated to the 11 most beautiful bookstores in the world): thousands and thousands of titles on any topic of human knowledge...all exposed on 4 beautiful floors, with curved walls, winding stairs and tree trunks set in the exposition!
We'll finish this article with beauty and sweetness! At number 17 of Oudekerksplein you can find the wonderful Ganache chocolate shop and it's really worth visiting! Not only because it offers a huge selection of artisan sweets (the mascarpone and raspberries truffle is a must!), but also because it is located inside the oldest building in Amsterdam, the Oude Kerk (which in the past used to be the reference church for Protestantism in Amsterdam).
