The 5 most interesting Christmas markets in Vienna

Vienna is one of the most romantic cities in the world during Christmas time. In addition to the traditional punch stalls on Stephansplatz, Vienna has so much more to offer than the usual Christmas markets.

Whether it's with a Finnish touch, a traditional style or a design Christmas market, Vienna has a diverse selection of unique markets that the Viennese refer to as 'Christkindlmarkt'. There is definitely something for every taste. Here we go!

1. MEDIEVAL CHRISTMAS MARKET

Let's start with the medieval Christmas market which is located in front of the Museum of Military History. In addition to marching music, you can expect dealers, artisans, hawkers, medieval food, fencing demonstrations, jugglers, and of course, home-made punch made from an ancient recipe.

When? November 29th - December 2nd

Where? In front of the Museum of Military History, Ghegastraße, 1030 Vienna

2. DESIGN MARKET EDELSTOFF

Design market Vienna

This is the Christmas version of the popular design market, Edelstoff. Here you will find many pieces of jewellery and objects such as accessories, living, fashion, jewellery, etc. With over 150 national and international designers, there is certainly something for you too. The entrance fee is 4 € - but that's definitely worth it!

When?

December 8th, 2018 11am -8pm

December 9th, 2018 11am - 6pm

Where? Marx Hall, Karl Farkas Gasse 19, 1030 Vienna

3. VINZIRAST ADVENT MARKET

Trays, boxes, wooden toys, cloth bags and backpacks, Christmas decorations, pot holders, lavender sacks and much more are sold in a small pub in the 9th district. These goodies are produced by refugees as part of the VinziChance project. Each piece is unique and therefore something very special. There will be music by the double bass player Georg Breinschmid, whose work is located between jazz, improvisation, world music and classical music. Definitely a good thing!

When? November 29th and 30th, from 12 noon to 7pm

4. VIENNA WEIHNACHTSTRAUM

This is a traditional, old-established Christmas market but certainly not less interesting than the other ones. For a few years now the unique Christmas market is not the only thing that enchants the mind, but there is now also an ice skating trails: it is a total of 3,000 m² of ice, which consists of winding ice paths that lead through the romantically lit Rathauspark. This Christmas market really offers everything. It's best to try it yourself!

A little tip: book the tickets for the ice rink online, like this you save 10% - even when hiring the skates.

When? 16th November - 26th December

5. FINNISH CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

Finland Christmas

We have to admit that this great Christmas market is not exactly in Vienna, but in the immediate vicinity and easy to reach from the city itself. This bazaar is the most beautiful event of the year for many Finns and fans of Finland. Music, children's program, designer clothes and delicious food await you here. Great extra: You can win wonderful prizes at the raffle!

And the proceeds of the Christmas Bazaar will be donated to the children of the Finnish School Association.

When? 2nd of December from 12 noon - 6pm

Where? Rathausplatz 25, 3400 Klosterneuburg
