Do you really know how to behave in a hostel?
Staying in a hostel requires making some compromises. After all, even if you travel alone, you will be sharing the space with other travellers. This makes it essential that you know the rules about how to get along with other hostel guests.
1. IN THE DORM
Try not to leave your things lying around. If everyone did that in a dormitory of 10 people, the result would be chaos and when you leave, finding your clothes could be a real struggle.
Also remember to bring a pair of padlocks, one for the locker and the other for your backpack. Trust is fine, but security is better.
At night, avoids talking too loud or turning on the lights. Someone is probably sleeping, and wouldn't it bother you if someone did the same?
2. IN THE DORM 2
Leave your sexual urges outside the dormitory door. It isn't nice to wake up in the middle of the night and hear groans in bed under your own. Think about it.
Oh, and you might not want to sleep naked, even if it is your habit when you're at home.
3. IN THE BATHROOM
If you share a bathroom, it's a good rule not to take a couple of hours to shower, when the line outside begins to lengthen.
Don't occupy the bathroom to get dressed after you wash. Do it back in the room, where you can take all the time you want.
4. IN THE KITCHEN
The hostel could have the largest kitchen there you've ever seen, but it is mathematically certain that you'll have to wait your turn, before you can cook.
Remember to always wash any dishes and pots that are supplied by the hostel. Also remember that you are not at home and that other people will need to use the same utensils that you use to prepare your lunch.
Write your name on the bag that contains your food, one of the rules for peaceful coexistence in the hostel is this: do not touch other people's stuff that others will not touch yours.
5. IN THE COMMON ROOM
Don't remain attached to your smartphone for hours and hours. Try to socialise and meet new people. Share your experiences, listen to stories, organise outings and evenings on the town. This social atmosphere is one of the most beautiful things about life in a hostel. You simply won't find it at a hotel or in an apartment, so make the most of it and don't annoy other guests during your stay!
After all, these rules for getting along peacefully in a hostel aren't so hard to follow, are they?
