New Year in a New City

12/18/2018

Book a city-break to one of the places below and see the new year in with style!

We get it - New Year's Eve is a big one. People often plan months in advance to ensure the night goes off without a hitch. If you are still on the fence about where you want to celebrate this year, take some inspiration from our guide to five cities around the world that are renowned for their New Year festivities (and fireworks)!

1 - Sydney

Sydney Fireworks

Sydney has something for everyone, with fantastic events, private island parties and boat banquets already selling out by the second, New Year's Eve down under is going to be a big one. It is always wise to plan in advance when organising your festivities on this special night, and this can definitely be said about Australia's most populous city. Even vantage points should be booked in advance, as Barangaroo and Blues Point Reserve are already sold out. We suggest booking a place at Mrs Macquaries Point in the Royal Botanical Garden - free entry and alcohol provided! Book on to a harbour cruise to escape the crowds, and head to Shark Island for some after-hours fun, dancing the new year in to the beats of DJ Lex Deluxe, from house to disco, funk and soul. If you are keen to find out more, why not have a read of why you must experience New Year's Eve in Sydney at least once in your lifetime!

Book your room at Elephant Backpacker Sydney to be centrally located between the red light district and the city centre.

2 - Dubai

Dubai Skyline

Picture world-class fireworks displays, beachside parties and celebrity appearances left, right and centre. Dubai knows how to party all-year-round, and it certainly brings out all the stops to bring new year in with a bang! Head to Barasti Beach and party on down with the likes of Fatman Scoop and the Bassjackers. If you are looking for something a bit different, why not spend an unforgettble night at the Dubai Opera with music and dancing kicking off from about 7pm. We get that New Year is usually one hell of a pricey party, no matter where you are in the world! One too many drinks than the average Friday night, and a cab fare that triples from the usual! If you're looking to celebrate on a budget, but still want to experience the festivities that Dubai have on offer, look over our tips for travelling to Dubai on a budget to help you out along the way.

Stay at Dubai Beach Host to be just walking distance from the incredible Jumeirah Beach Residence and spend New Year in the sun to bring 2018 to a close.

3 - New York

New York

NYE in NYC is an absolute must if you're one who likes to be in the centre of it all (and I mean, who doesn't!?) By all means make your way down to Times Square and watch The Ball Drop along with a million New Yorkers (best to wrap up warm if you decide to do so), or if you're looking to celebrate New Year away from the crowds there are plenty of events going down all over the city. Go to Brooklyn and book a concert or music event to see your favourite artists perform, or dine like Royals at one of the many restaurants offering lavish New Year's Eve feasts! For something a bit different why not book onto the New Year's Eve Ball on the Infinity Yacht and take in the views of favourite landmarks as you celebrate.

Make sure to save your space at Central Park West Hostel, as newly renovated, it is one of the best low-cost locations at the heart of the Big Apple. Manhattan - one of the most prestigious neighbourhoods in the city.

4 - London

London

It's fireworks galore, as it is every year, at London Bridge. Join the thousands that line the Southbank to watch the incredible displays taking place in the capital. That's not the only thing going on however, far from it in fact! Book on to a magical evening cruise along the River Thames, or combine your firework views with fine dining and reserve a table at Aqua Shard, Wahaca Southbank or The Rooftop St James. For something different, why not check out Bunga Bunga in Covent Garden, where you will find karaoke and entertainment to accompany a four-course Italian feast! The party certaintly doesn't stop as the clock strikes 12... check out the Studio 54 New Year's Eve Party at Sky Garden for some disco glamour, or dance until the early morning in one of London's super clubs such as Fabric or Heaven to really kick the new year off in style!

St Christopher's Inn London Bridge to be right at the heart of the city's festivities!

5 - Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro

Last but certainly not least, Rio is home to the most incredible parties, hottest nightclubs and the best of Brazil's DJs to keep you moving all night long. The place to be on New Year's Eve is Copacabana beach, which becomes crowded with over two-million people all looking to see the New Year in while partying on the sand with fireworks going off all over the place. As it's practically midsummer, forget about the nightclubs and take to the beach with the rest of the crowd. Fit in with the locals and make sure to wear white for the festivities, as you'll find almost all Brazilians dressed head to toe in white, as it is seen as good luck for the new year. Have a read of how to prepare for a safe and cheap trip to Rio, and prepare for a wild night with live bands, international names and dancing till dawn in Rio!

Book a visit here and crash at CabanaCopa Hostel, located just a few blocks to Copaacabana beach and boasting its own bar, cinema room and BBQ backyard chill out zone!
