Situated on Kobetamendi Hill and offering stunning views of the Basque countryside, the Bilbao-based festival has beautiful scenery from the moment you arrive. It's one of the cheapest festivals in Spain by some distance. The Arcade Fire and Bad Breeding are two of the big names headlining the 2016 festival.

Exit, Serbia

Price? €119 for a three-day pass
Serbia’s largest music festival is situated in Novi Sad, which is only a few miles away from the capital Belgrade. With its beautiful setting and Petrovaradin Fortress, it’s considered one of the greatest festival venues in Europe. The music stages are connected by medieval pathways and this year’s headliners include The Prodigy, Ellie Goulding and Bastille.

Flow, Helsinki
Where? Helsinki, Finland

Who’s playing? Iggy Pop, Massive Attack, The Kills, The Last Shadow Puppets and Jamie XX
Price? €165 for a three-day pass
Taking place inside the breathtaking Suvilahti power plant, the Helisinki-based festival is the coolest thing happening in Finland this year. With Iggy Pop, Massive Attack and The Kills performing alongside local Scandinavian acts, this festival will be an even bigger hit with hipsters. It's convenient too, with the festival site only a brief walk from Helsinki city centre.

Sziget Festival 2016

Budapest's Sziget Festival has added a host of huge names to this year's line-up, including Muse, Tinie Tempah and Rihanna. The festival takes place over a whole week in August, on Margaret Island (Margitsziget) in the Danube, and is enormously popular for its party time atmosphere. With a stellar line up of international rock stars and DJs, you'll struggle to get better value for money on the summer festival circuit.

Lollapalooza, Berlin
Where? Berlin, Germany
When? 11th-12th September 2016
Who’s playing? Radiohead and Kings of Leon
Price? €139 for a two-day pass
Lollapalooza will be taking place on a former airfield, Treptower Park, alongside the River Spree in the city’s Kreuzberg district. Nowhere in Europe can you expect to see Radiohead and Kings of Leon at bargain basement prices. The Berlin-based festival is a place where young bands become legends, and legends return to claim their fame.
