Waterfalls of Iguaçu - a secret shared between Brazil and Argentina

Foz do Iguaçu atractts from the most demanding tourists to the free spirit backpackers. Here are some tips on how to travel to Foz in a awesome and cheap way!

  • Transports

Foz do Iguaçu has an airport however, buses are cheaper options! You can catch one from São Paulo, most of buses travel during the night so you won't even feel the long trip as you'll be sleeping.

  • Accommodation

The paradise for backpackers! There are thousands of options! Clean, enjoyable and well located hostels such as Pousada Caroline!

  • What to do and to see:

The waterfalls: Brazilians or Argentinians?

They are both amazing and different. While in the Brazilian part there are a frontal vision to the waterfalls, from the Argentinian side, you can have a top view. There is a stronger organization on the Brazilian side, which makes of the Argentinian side more rustic, with more paths and distinct rails. In order to go there, the cheapest way is by catching a local bus that stops very close to both parks.

Moreover, while in the Brazilian side half a day is enough (and you can use the rest of the day in the Birds Park near by!) in the Argentinian side we suggest one day.

Parque das Aves - the biggest bird park of Latin America!

If you want to save some money, catch a bus in the direction of the Parque das Aves, which is located outside the city center. The ticket will cost you around 11€ but you can watch and interact with birds from several parts of the world!

The hydroelectric dam of Itaipu

Near the dam you can take several walks, during day or night and one of them includes a visit to the astronomic pole. The views are obviously different during the day and the night, so regardless of the one you chose you will want to try the other as well!

Visit a little bit of Argentina and Paraguay

Try an Argentinian wine, typical cakes such as the Alfajor or Doce de Leite. Have fun in the ice bar - a bar totally made of ice which is located in Puerto Iguaçu.

Moreover, get to know the chaotic city of Ciudad del Este in Paraguay which is also a shopping paradise, located in the border between Foz do Iguaçu and Paraguay.

In Foz do Iguaçu you'll be surprised by the organization, not very common in Brazil. Moreover, you will find people very welcoming and prices usually low for both high and low season.

Expect to relax and get amazed but also so live adventures and have a lot of fun! Let Brazil surprise you :)
