Brexit Bargain Britain: Why London is Now a Cheap Tourist Destination

09/20/2017

With the UK pound weaker than ever before - there has never been a better time to visit London.

Always fancied going on holiday to London but couldn’t afford it? Well now is the time to go.

With the pound down against the dollar and euro after Britain voted to leave the European Union in June 2016, the UK capital’s attractions, restaurants and nightlife are cheaper than they have been in decades.

That’s great news for travellers heading to London this year.

Take London's Smart Hyde Park Inn. A night at the cosy, Wi-Fi friendly hostel now only cost €16. That’s a massive bargain considering you’re only ten minutes away from Hyde Park and Oxford Street.

Here are other ways of making London affordable on a budget:

1) See the 'Changing of the Guards' for free

The changing of the guard takes place every other day at 11:30 am. If you want to see the event without climbing a fence, get there by 11 am and watch it for free.

2) Get the London Pass

If you’re going to be in London for an extended weekend, then the London Pass offers tremendous value. It gives ticket owners a one-stop-pass to visit the city's biggest attractions whilst saving time, money and stress.

You can attend the Shakespeare Globe, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, Thames River Cruise, and much more with the pass. You can also hop-on and hop-off the bus tour whenever it suits you.

Top tip: Day 1 of your London Pass ends at midnight on the first day you use it - so start your sightseeing in the morning.

Price: A six-day London Pass costs £139 for adults, £96 for under 16’s. Similar passes are available for 1, 2, 3 and ten days.

3) Go on a free walking tour

There are numerous free walking tours available in London. Undiscovered London will take you around the biggest attractions (Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and St James Park, etc.) and help you get a feel for London’s history from Roman times to the present day.

Alternatively, you can explore the hipster Shoreditch area if you book a guided walk with the East End Walking Tour. They will take you through the East End’s street art hot spots, music venues, pop-up galleries and curry houses.

4) Visit London's free museums
