AAE Bourbon House Hostel New Orleans

Near bus station to and from Bourbon St. Very safe, friendly and professional staff. Great atmosphere. Stayed for 3 nights and had a blast at AAE Bourbon hostel and in NOLA.

Danijel Lelekovic “The first thing you notice about New Orleans are the burying grounds - the cemeteries - and they're a cold proposition, one of the best things there are here. Going by, you try to be as quiet as possible, better to let them sleep. Greek, Roman, sepulchres- palatial mausoleums made to order, phantomesque, signs and symbols of hidden decay - ghosts of women and men who have sinned and who've died and are now living in tombs. The past doesn't pass away so quickly here. You could be dead for a long time” ― Bob Dylan

Ignore the numerical ratings above except for position. I never got to stay at this hostel. First of all, they stated that they had no record of my reservation from hostelsclub when I called them up the day before my stay. Apparently, this is not unusual. Somehow their connection to the site is not very direct. Anyway, if you do decide to stay there, you'd be wise to make your reservation directly with the guesthouse, or at least following up with a call after reserving on hostelsclub. I am told that if they know about your reservation, they immediately charge your credit card for the first night. So if no such charge appears on your CC, then they don't know about you. When I got to the guesthouse, they still had no record of me, despite my calling them the day before. They said they had a plumbing problem which put many of the private rooms out of commission, so they had no such room for me. They offered to put me up in one of the dorms. I am well past my college years, so I wasn't ready for this. Being stuck in NO without a room on a Friday afternoon, when most other places are fully booked, was a bit of a harrowing experience. I realize that the plumbing problem may well have been an unexpected issue beyond their control. But I'd expect a hotel/guesthouse in this situation to assist its customers to find comparable accommodation at comparable (really the same) price.
