About Mountain Base Backpackers
Hiking, fishing, golf, squash, shopping, quad biking, Drakensberg Canopy Tour, white water rafting (seasonal and water dependant), raptor shows, mountain climbing, Drakensberg Boys Choir concerts, hot air ballooning, game drives, battlefield tours, wine tasting and much more. Mountain Base Backpackers is located in the unique position to most of these activities.
This old Mountain Base at the Dragon Peaks airfield has been revamped to a backpackers place. This is the perfect venue for nature lovers, bird watchers, adventure junkies and mountaineers alike.

Room types
Capable of accommodating 105 guests. There are 20 2-Bed Cabins leading out to the Garden for those cabins along the river bank, with their own ablution block. As well as two Dorms with their own shared ablution block within the Base itself.
Mountain Base Backpackers accepts groups, couples & singles looking for some clean and affordable accommodation. The friendly staff are on hand to assist with your maximum relaxation and enjoyment.
Location and surroundings
Dragon's Restaurant and Pub is situated within the Resort and offers excellent a la carte cuisine. There are enticing specials every Wednesday evening and an outstanding Sunday buffet between 12:00 and 14:30.
Everyday at 11:00 tea and scones are on the patio by the restaurant. The restaurant also caters for wedding receptions and corporate functions.
Services and facilities
There is a T.V Lounge & fully equipped Bar leading to a patio, a dining room leading to the porch with the outdoor Braai facilities and a fully equipped Kitchen too. Designated chilling areas have also been setup for your enjoyment after an eventful day of sightseeing & adventuring.
