Take a Ferry Ride to China or Korea's Islands!

Incheon is the third largest metropolis in Korea and is located within a short distance from Seoul Metropolitan City. It's about only an hour. Incheon is the second major seaport after Busan. There are accessible ferries to Incheon's outlying islands such as Jeju Island and Baekryung Island. The Passenger Terminal located at the port offers ferries to four cities in China: Dalian, Qingdao, Tianjin, and Weihai. It is the famous home to a bustling Chinatown, the international business district 'songdo', the longest bridge, and the 151-story building known as the 'Incheon twin towers'. You can also easily reach the island 'Ganghwado'.

MAIN ATTRACTIONS:

Jayu (Freedom) Park: It was the nation’s first Western-style park, created 5 years after the opening of Incheon Port. The statue of General MacArthur as well as a memorial to the centennial anniversary of U.S. and Korea relations is located inside the park. The park underwent name changes from “Gakguk Park”, “Manguk Park” to the current “Jayu Park”. The name change seems to reflect the history of the nation’s modern history.

Chinatown: Korea's only official Chinatown is located in Incheon, nearby Jayu Park. It was born since the opening of the Chinese Consulate in 1884. During the 1940's, Chinatown enjoyed its largest share of the Incheon economy by trading Chinese silk, oriental medicine herbs, and chinaware. The neighborhood is filled with signboards in Chinese characters, stores with red decorations, and the aromatic smell of fried food. Visitors enjoy the exotic ambience with their eyes and nose. In order to better understand the past 100 years, visitors should slowly stroll around the area. For example, the Incheon Japanese 18th Bank was remodeled to build the “Modern Architecture Exhibition Hall” preserving the ancient-style plastered walls, which displays the old days in the port city.

Wolmido: This island is located off Green Beach, one of the landing sites for MacArthur's invasion force. The streets are romantic and dreamy and attract thousands of people on the weekends because Wolmido also has an amusement park, café-filled streets, raw-fish restaurants and other outside performances during the weekends. Visitors enjoy the sight of the burning sun entering the sea.

Incheon Landing Operation Memorial Hall: A war memorial hall built to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the opening of Incheon sea Port in 1984. Its theme focuses on the successful Incheon Landing Operation led by UN Commander in Chief, General McArthur during the Korean War.

THINGS TO EAT:

Jajangmyeon: One of the specialties of Incheon’s Chinatown. It was here that noodles in black bean sauce were first created. This inexpensive and hearty dish has become one of Korea's most representative foods.

[[Baendaengi]): A raw herring dish which is a speciality of Ganghwado island easily reached from Incheon. They taste best when caught during their spawning period from April to June.
