In this article you will learn how to reinvent your travel Instagram account with advice from influencers
When scrolling through Instagram, we can summarize the posts we see as being two kinds: pictures that seem to be taken in another life – back when humanity wasn't locked at home for months – or pictures showing people doing activities at home: exercising, reading books, watching TV series, or playing games. It’s not as exciting as travelling the world but at least we know it’s real. It is what's happening right now and we can relate – we’re all going through this, including our favorite travel Instagrammers!
…But we wonder, can they still successfully run a travel account... without actually travelling?! We spoke with the owners of three travel Instagram accounts @voyagingherbivore, @ummundoa3mais2 and @backpackandtripod, and we will share our conclusions with you now!
Voyaging Herbivore
Voyaging Herbivore is made up of Alysa and Jack. She’s American and he’s English. They are the typical travel couple we all want to be. They have great pictures together in amazing locations and they are also pretty skilled with Photoshop (and they share their knowledge on their website!) also they are vegan (Oh so that explains the ‘herbivore’ on the name!).
Backpack and Tripod
Backpack and Tripod is an account run by Himani Singh - she's from Austin, in the USA. She used to be a solo backpacker until she met... exactly, the boy in the picture! They both love traveling, hiking, camping and photography. They dream about visiting all 62 National Parks in their country, so far they've been to 28!
Um Mundo a 3 Mais 2
If these two Intagrammer couples are what we want to be right now, than this third project is what we want for our future - an Instagrammer family! They started by being 3 (Um Mundo a 3 = A World for 3) then the twins came and they had to change the name, so they add Mais 2 (Mais 2 = Plus 2).
After introducing themselves, we asked them what was their strategy and what kind of posts were they planning to publish during the quarantine. As all of them are travel instagrammers it would definitely be a challenge to keep publishing!
@voyagingherbivore: We’ve tried to stick to more lifestyle in home pieces for Instagram. On our website we’ve been mainly updating old posts with a few lifestyle and home pieces scattered in. We’ve actually really enjoyed the opportunity to be creative at home since it’s really new for us!
@ummundoa3mais2, the instagrammer family, on the other hand, said the transition was quite easy. In the first place, we decided to stop publishing pictures of previous trips. It didn't make sense for us - as we don't want to motivate people to leave their homes. In second place, our instagram is about travelling but also about our daily lives. We like to think of it as a journal and this quarantine is a time of our lives that we (hopefully!) won't live again and so we want to create memories and we want to register them.
Quarantine has been hard on everyone. Everyone? Well, maybe not on the couples who were in long distance relationships and have decided to spend quarantine together, just like @voyagingherbivore! Quarantine has actually been a blessing in disguise for us. We still had a few months of long distance left while I (Alysa) finished school in the states. I came to England to visit Jack about a week before travel restrictions went into place and with everything moving online I decided to stay here. So it’s been an unexpected end to long distance which has been wonderful. We’re currently with Jack’s family in Northern England. We have loads of space and nature to walk around in so it really hasn’t been too bad. We’re just grateful to be together at this point. We’ve developed a routine that we try to stick to each day that includes our daily tasks and time outside.
Finally, we asked the Instagrammers if they have any advice for our readers and @backpackandtripod had a great suggestion to give: Since we are not spending any money in restaurants, bars or regular everyday expenses right now - I think this is the perfect time to save for that big trip you have always dreamt of taking. Until then - stay home, stay safe.
But don't forget to live the moment and enjoy your time right now! On that @ummundoa2mais3 has something to say: There's not be gonna be good days and bad days. But if you're spending quarantine with family (parents or children!) use that time in family the best way you can! Laugh, play games and show how much you love them - and you'll certainly have good memories from the quarantine! You should also find time to yourself - to work on your career, to do the things to like but never have time to - but, at the same time, don't demand too much from yourself, this is a new and delicate situation and you're doing your best: focus on that though on the bad days. :)
