Although I was booked into Villa Azul, when I turned up I was taken across the street to a family member's house and given a bed there in a back apartment. At no point did I have to sign anything which made me wonder if it was a real Casa Particular like previous Casa. Also, the family closd the outside door and put the chain on so when I got back at 8pm couldn`t get in. Stayed in three Casas were good except this experience. To be fair they did give me a discount though after arguing.
Nice place and friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast. Clean rooms and bathrooms. Lots of privacy, just like in a hotel! Location in the old (and not restored) Havana may at the beginning feel too restless, but you get used to that quickly. Good place to enjoy your stay.
Grace, the owner, speaks good English, is very friendly and helpful. Be prepared that the rooms may be overbooked, but don't worry, they always find an alternative for you. We were offered free breakfast as a compensation.
Although the location of villa azul is really convenient I would not necessarily recommend this casa. It was our first stop on our trip through Cuba so we had no idea how things work in Cuba and trusted in recommendations of the staff. As a result we ended up having dinner for 22 CUC per person (normally you can easily eat for 5-10 CUC. Also the prices for the taxi from the airport, the room, breakfast or doing the laundry was much higher then anywhere else in Cuba so we felt really ripped off by this casa. If you still decide to stay here (it is very clean!) and have any plans for the morning,make sure to order breakfast at least 45minutes earlier then you actually want it because it will definitely be late even if you have a bus or plane to catch
