In the centre of Matosinhos city, near the beach. Very beautiful city with buildings of the nineteenth century. Dozens of restaurants for fresh fish and seafood, lots of shops and nightlife bars.
This was our second stay in the hotel Residencial Senhor de Matosinhos and, obviously, we wouldn't have come back if we weren't really happy. And the second time too we weren't disappointed. We were COMPLETELY CHARMED by this little hotel and the FRIENDLY STAFF. We felt completely at home here. We love Matosinhos too. It feels like we visited a piece of real Portugal. Some of the houses in the main street are completely delapidated but the little street cafes and fish restaurants are full of life and great food and friendly people. The beach is great but not really touristy. The metro takes you to Porto in 20 minutes - or take the bus along the coast. I recommend the hotel to anyone who wants to go just a little off the beaten track.
Excellent stay for the price. The location and the included breakfast are very convenient. The only minus point was a random mechanical pump noise coming from the outside, even at night. I guess it can be heard only from one side of the hotel. Fortunately it was covered by the sound of the AC.
The hostel was great, more like a hotel. Very clean and nice staff. A little far from Porto, yet, was easily accessible by metro. I would totally stay here again.
