Blackcurrant Backpackers in the town centre of Taupo is a bunk bed free hostel! Renovated with the new backpacker market in mind, we are the closest hostel to the bus station and the supermarkets and with the friendliest staff in town.

Room types
Purposely renovated with the new backpacker market in mind,
All our beds are fully made up and we are a bunk bed free zone!! Our dorm and share rooms have have En suites.
Our Basic Dorm has share Bathroom.
All of our double rooms have private hotel style bathrooms and boast spring mattress queen size beds, complete with electric blankets for those chillier evenings
Our singles, twins and doubles also have towels.
Location and surroundings
Taupo is a mecca for all things outdoors – from tramping to trout fishing, skydiving with Taupo tandem, Sailing on the Great Lake, with our own hostel Yacht "Fearless"
or you can treating yourself to a thermal spa, mountain biking trails to maori culture…..Taupo attracts not only international travellers but New Zealanders too!
Taupo is also known as the ‘Events Capital of New Zealand’ which means that some weekends here can get very busy.
And we're just in the middle of all this!
Services and facilities
The new kitchen/dining area is spacious and clean with even an oven for the budding chefs out there!
The expansive deck and BBQ area has stunning views over the lake to the Tongariro National Park and our large garden area is just great for chilling out in. We have a Global Gossip internet cafe and WIFI plus a DVD room with flat screen TV. Full laundry facilities are also available.

We booked this really nice place for a day. It cost about NZ$70 for the night which was all in all a bargain. Check in was fuss free and pleasant and so was check out. Ross helped carry our luggage to the second floor. Earlier in the afternoon it was slightly noisy but it got quieter later at night. The room had a bar fridge, a radiator, a large bathroom, heated blankets. The only thing was the TV in the living room which didn't have Sky TV so we couldnt watch the rugby match, so we went to the city centre to join others. Overall well-done! I'd stay there again.
