Our receptionists will always give you a friendly welcome and can help with any questions about what to see in Edinburgh or about travel around Scotland. We aim to look after you totally so you can have the best holiday possible.
We also have two other hostels in the Old Town of Edinburgh; the small & vibrant Royal Mile Backpackers and the historic High Street Hostel, Edinburgh’s original independent hostel!
Castle Rock Hostel is only 1 min from the Royal Mile, right beside Edinburgh Castle, with unique panoramic views over the city. With a mix of grandeur and a backpacker vibe, this palatial hostel provides spacious dorm rooms, posh big common lounge with pool table, free wifi and guest kitchen.

Location and surroundings
Truly superb location under the castle ramparts! Enjoy being in Edinburgh's best location & being at the very heart of the city. We are just a stroll from the bus, train and the airport bus and a 1 minute walk from Edinburgh Castle, 1 minute from the Royal Mile & 1 minute from the Grassmarket. We are in a relatively quiet street but the city's wonderful, late night-life is also just around the corner – ideal!

That's the best hostel ever,it is so great!Amazing view from the windows,many common rooms..it's fantastic!!!Will come back again.Only one favour to the spanish staff,speak please in english when attending people and be tolerant,if you work there!
Castle Rock Hostel is absolutely lovely! Many international travellers and backpackers stay there, some of them longer. Edinburgh Castle is just to the right, you can see it from the front door, also you are in the middle of the old city centre and you can reach most places within a few minutes walking distance. The interior of Castle Rock Hostel is beautiful and the staff is super friendly. The common areas are the perfect place for hanging out alone or to meet other travellers: There's two big and very well equipped kitchens and several lounges with board games, billiard and even a piano. We really loved it at castle Rock and when I'm back in Edinburgh, I definitely know where I'm going to stay! xx
Great location as seen on pictures. Nice and helpful staff. Comfy rooms with preassigned beds and small lockers. Great shared areas, with social life. Clean bathrooms with great availability
It had the old feel that most buildings in Edinburgh do, but it was very clean and pretty comfortable. There were several opportunities to make friends, but also no judgement for people that were hanging out on their own. Overall, I’m glad I chose to stay there :)
