About 1849 Backpackers
1849 Backpackers Albany – the only Albany hostel featured in the 2014-2015 Lonely Planet and a TripAdvisor Award for Excellence, two years running. We have also built a theatre with stage and lights, guitars and percussion instruments for guests to play - this is a unique space. 1849 is run for travellers, by travellers, it will be hard for you to leave this place.

Room types
We offer comfortable single, double, twin, triple, four and six share room, plus two Luxury Queen Rooms. Separate male/female dorms, or mixed dorms for groups. Dorms have mostly bunk beds. The rooms have high ceilings, are kept meticulously clean and are never over crowded. And when you wake up, go and have as many free, freshly made pancakes as you like, made every morning for all hostel guests.
Location and surroundings
The hostel is in the best location in Albany. Everything in town is within walking distance, with the Anzac Centre, Old Gaol, Residency Museum, Amity Ship and Anzac Peace Park all close-by. If you want to head further, no problem. Bikes can be borrowed, cars rented. Supermarket two minutes walk away, Entertainment Centre five minutes, pubs and restaurants close as well and whale tour boats five minutes.
Services and facilities
Beautiful gardens, verandah, big lounge with 50' flat screen TV, FOXTEL for the sports fans and DVDs. We have table tennis, free BBQ, 2 x fully equipped commercial standard kitchens. There is a grass 18x12m 4-a-side soccer pitch and volleyball court, free on site parking and a theatre stage downstairs complete with stage lighting and musical instruments for free guest use, and projector for movie nights. The WiFi at 1849 Backpackers is all free, unlimited, fast and reliable.
