Base Magnetic Island is the only hostel on the beach with outdoor swimming pool and on site bar for drinks, food and entertainment. We are famous for being home of the ONLY Full Moon party in Australia!

Room types
We have a range of accommodation including raised secluded campsites and waterfront bungalows. For a romantic stay choose one of our rooms overlooking the beautiful Coral Sea, they will ensure your comfort and high quality sleep. There are also doubles for all budgets, 6 or 8 bed dorms and an exclusive female only dorm is available as well. All rooms and bathrooms are cleaned daily, with all beds made with fresh clean linen.
Location and surroundings
Come recharge the batteries and enjoy your own little part of paradise only 20 minutes by ferry from Townsville and the mainland. We are the closest hostel to the Nelly Bay Ferry Terminal and right on the beach! Base is only a short walk to cafes, supermarkets, banks and much more. Walk or hire one of our bicycles to get there or use these to casually explore the island when and how you want.
Services and facilities
We not only have a stunning pool and deck for catching the rays, our bar has something and everything going on, whether it is lying back and sipping dacquiris on a 'lazy Tuesday', grooving to the funky beats of local DJs on a Friday or Saturday. There are plenty of common areas for you to have fun but your essentials are also there, for example our Camp Kitchen which is cleaned and sanitized daily, WiFi, washing machines and much more.
