You can go your own way
If you’re nursing a broken heart, overeating ice cream, listening to Adele and obsessively stalking your ex on Instagram, then there is only one cure to your misery. Book a cheap flight and go travelling. There’s no better way of getting over someone than to explore a new and faraway land.
Moving on from a relationship is never easy. But getting away from your everyday routine and your ex’s memories usually helps. In that respect, travel is the ultimate medicine. Starting afresh is a perfect antidote to a broken heart. Where you want to go depends on how you feel at the time.
So pick the trip that best matches your mood and start packing for a new adventure.
Climb a mountain

Many heartbroken travellers have scaled up mountains to obtain a sense of accomplishment. After climbing a mountain, your ex will the be last thing on your mind. Reaching the top may even boost your confidence and convince you that yes, s(he) doesn’t matter anymore, and you can have a great life without them.
Go for an adrenaline rush

If you want to stop thinking about your ex, then why not do something so crazy you have no choice but to forget them. Whether it’s going white water rafting in Australia or parasailing in Slovakia, there are so many things you can do. Adventure sports can be done on your own or as part of a team.
As you become confident performing your new activity, you will experience that fuzzy feeling of accomplishment that will help you get over your heartbreak.
You’re also likely to make new friends as you meet people who are undergoing the same experience as you. Who knows you might find the next love of your life while crashing down a storming river in New South Wales.
Enjoy beautiful solitude

If you want to reflect on your relationship and have time to think things through, then quiet, beautiful locations are perfect. Whether you want to read on a deserted beach or go camping in the jungle, if you need time to think, then it makes sense to do it somewhere magical.
Bring a book or two and switch off your phone and pretty soon you’ll feel ready to look for love again.
Book a short city break

If you have a proper job and rent commitments, you might not be able to run away for six months. If that is the case, you can always go on a short city break, somewhere close to home, but far, far away from your ex.
Solo travellers don’t have to consider the whims of other people let alone their ex's. They can do as they please. So whether you fancy spending a few days exploring Renaissance art in Florence, nightclubbing in Berlin, or whale watching in Southern Ireland, you are free to do as you please.
