Top 10 budget hostels in Havana

If you've started planning a budget trip to Cuba, don't look for the large chain hostels or hotels you might be used to book in Europe and North America, as you simply won't find any. „Casa Particular” is in fact the most common accommodation type. It literally means "private house" and can be easily compared to a bed and breakfast or a holiday rental. It consists of private family flats re-arranged so as to be used as small hotels offering private rooms, small apartments or studios with separate entrance.

„Casa Particular” in Cuba (big)

It is very easy to spot a “casa particular” along Havana streets: if you see a sign including 2 blue triangles (they stand for roofs) on white background, that's a legal and officially recognized B&B. You can stay there on a short or long term basis and enjoy the “homey” atmosphere of such lodgings. It's ideal for those independent travelers looking to get the local culture under their skin and to experience the everyday life of the country.
