10/24/2015

Let there be light in the middle of the darkest months of the year!

When you wake up, it’s dark. When you return home from school or from work, it’s dark. But don’t you worry, there are a few upsides with the surrounding darkness at this time of the year. One of them are the several festivals of lights that are brightening up the chilly autumn and winter months.

Here’s our top three festival of lights in Europe to cheer up your day:

FÊTE DES LUMIÈRES IN LYON, FRANCE (5.-8.12.2015)

Celebrating the historical city of Lyon’s heritage, this festival of lights spreads over the architectural buildings, cathedrals and squares during four nights in December. With a bit of resemblance to the Indian festival of lights, Diwali, the people often decorate their window seals with candles and take a walk outside together to admire the light illustrations throughout the city with a pure magical atmosphere.

AMSTERDAM LIGHT FESTIVAL, THE NETHERLANDS (28.11.2015-17.1.2016)

Every year Amsterdam turns into a true spectacular city of lights, thanks to the Light Festival which will be running altogether for 55 days from November to January. This year the theme of the festival is respectively dedicated to ‘Friendship’ and it consists of two main routes. The boat route called Water Colour will offer a stunning view of the city from the unique canals while the walking route Illuminade is a good option for those who prefer to explore Amsterdam by foot.

LUX HELSINKI IN HELSINKI, FINLAND (6.-10.1.2016)

When moving further to January 2016, the capital of Finland will also set up some light in the middle of the frosty Nordic winter days. From the icon of the city, Helsinki Cathedral and Senate Square to Tori Quarters to the Helsinki University and the Central Railway Station the city will be blooming of different kinds of innovational light illustrations created by both international and local artists.
