Rothenburg ob der Tauber (big)

Rothenburg ob der Tauber – is the best preserved medieval town in Germany. The name translates to 'Red fortress above the Tauber' the town is famous for its red roofs of the houses on the Tauber River. Founded in 950 the city conserved main stoical sights such as the Medieval Town wall, the Great Hall of the castle, the Historic Town Hall with its clock tower and Meistertrunk clock, the old Monastery and famous churches. You will need more than one day to discover this fantastic city.

Heidelberg - romantic mediaval city (big)

Heidelberg is a great medieval town with Baroque architecture and stone streets. It has Germany’s oldest University, famous Heidelberg Castle, the idyllic Neckar river valley, vineyards and forests. Heidelberg was also the centre of German intellectualism and romanticism in the 18th and 19th centuries. Hegel, Goethe and Weber lived and worked here. The Castle of Heidelberg with its mix of styles from Gothic to Renaissance was destroyed several times and its ruins are considered to be the symbol of German Romanticism.

Bavaria City Hostel (big)

Neuschwanstein - Castle of Neuensteinis is one of the most famous castles, it was built by the order of Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1869. This castle is close to Füssen, so you can comfortably stay in one of the Füssesn hostels. Füssen is an excellent base for outdoor activities such as hiking and bicycle tours. Today Neuschwanstein is one of the most popular, of all the palaces and castles in Europe. Ludwig II was inspired to rebuild the old castle ruins by the opera's of his friends Richard Wagner Tannhäuser and Lohengrin: “this castle will be in every way more beautiful and habitable than Hohenschwangau further down, which is desecrated every year by the prose of my mother; they will take revenge, the desecrated gods, and come to live with Us on the lofty heights, breathing the air of heaven”.

Würzburg Residence Palace (big)

Würzburg Residence Palace is located on both sides of the river Main. It is the best wine growing region in Germany and is very famous for its wine tours. Even if Würzburg was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War, it's castles, historic monuments, buildings and churches have been reconstructed to their former splendour. You will find here the most amazing examples of Baroque architecture in Europe.
