She simply can’t stand still, she is for a green lifestyle and she writes on her one of a kind travel blog Littlemissitchyfeet.com. Ladies and Gentlemen, we are happy to introduce you Doris Neubauer. You can follow her adventures on her blog and on Twitter as well @lilmsitchyfeet. We’ve interviewed her and asked her to inspire us with some travel thoughts for 2014!

How do you plan your trips?

Sometimes, I got an invite I cannot resist; sometimes a friend drags me along; sometimes, a destination has been on my list forever and now is the chance: there´s no rule neither in how my trips take place nor how I plan them. What I love most while traveling though is to have a broad overview about the destination and some must-sees or tips and to go with the flow from there. If things are too much pre-arranged, I miss the adventure traveling means to me.

What’s the biggest realization that you’ve got out of your travelling?

There´s not only one big realization but several: mostly it is that people are “same but different” as the saying goes and that it does not matter where you go but whom you meet. It´s always the people and the emotions to define a journey.

If you wanted to inspire someone to travel, what would you tell them?

Just go and make it happen, see where it takes you. Be as open and loving with yourself and others as possible. We think people make the place.

Who is the most inspiring person you’ve met on the road?

Always the one I am with at the moment. I really have met amazing people so far and will for sure meet other inspiring people, not only on the road while traveling but also in life in general. I am certain you only meet people if they can teach you something or if you can teach them something – otherwise you would not meet nor connect.

Is there something you can’t travel without?

Some years ago, the answer would have been very different, but nowadays it´s my mac book air I suppose. But then, every travel writer mentions these equipment, right ;-) So another important thing is my yoga travel mat: foldable, easy to store in even the tiniest backpack and a great reminder to sit and practise on the road.

Hostelsclub aims to provide affordable but quality accommodation and the message we always try to send across – especially in our articles - is that you don’t necessarily need to be rich to travel and to get the chance to see the world. What you think?

I am a passionate fan of staying with locals or in home stays, which is even for free or at least does not cost a lot most of the time. So I quite agree that you don´t need to spend a fortune while traveling and still have all the “luxuries” you need even though, luxury is different to everyone. For me, the biggest “luxury” is to meet great people and explore things off the beaten path.

Doris as a bollywood queen while travelling in India

Which is the last place you’ve been to? Do you have any travel plans in the immediate future?

My last trip was to India: I was there for 2 weeks and then continued and extended the journey for another 5 weeks. I loved it and it brought back all the good things, I love about traveling. Being free, exploring, having time... so the travel bug hit me again and I decided not to do as many short trips as I did the previous year but rather go and travel somewhere for a longer period of time. Therefore, my next destination is Brazil in January, staying there for about 6 – 7 weeks and fully experiencing the Carnival as well. Brazil is one of the few places I have not been to in South America and I always wanted to visit during the Carnival. Moreover, I have friends there – so I am looking forward to hanging out with them too.
