Honeymoon in Hostels

They met while backpacking and they will get married… while backpacking!

Mark and Stefy are a couple of backpackers. Stefy is a teacher, Mark is an air force officer. They met in Southern Africa during a trip that included South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia and a short stop in Zimbabwe… where else could a couple like them have met and fell in love?

Mark created the website born2travel.it shortly before they met, and it came natural to include Stefy too. The site does not aim to give precise indications, exact information or anything like that, but to report their trips, sensations and emotions when discovering new places and fantastic people, and trying to mingle with all the wonderful different faces of the world. You will find recipes from every continent and funny anecdotes from all around the globe.

Let Stefy tell us something about their adventures and how they led to a unique marriage proposal and a unique honeymoon: backpacking hostels mode on!

In our famous first trip to Africa together, Mark asked me “how about we go somewhere for six months… six months of traveling?” and I replied “Sure!”. We got back, sorted out the bureaucratic and work-related issues and left for an unforgettable trip. We started out in Nepal with a memorable trekking, filled our eyes with amazement in India, marveled at the authenticity of Myanmar, got relaxed and massaged in Thailand, discovered the unspoken tragedies of Laos and Cambodia, dropped our jaws to the nature of Borneo, prayed in the temples of Bali and discovered the Philippines like we never expected.

Another on the road trip, filled with new teachings and wonderful people was the one to Central America. We left from Guatemala, through El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica… what a great sense of freedom!

Every time we get back from a trip we sit silently, look in each other’s eyes and go through all the experiences we have passed through, then we close our eyes and we tell ourselves how beautiful it is to cross on foot the thousand roads than define this wonderful world.

I am Africa-sick. When in Africa, under that infinite sky I feel a differnet breath. The last days to this land were to Uganda and Rwanda, with the giant gorilla in a breathtaking green environment, Tanzania and Kenya, where the savannah with its “inhabitants” just looked like a Disney animated film… Ghana, Togo and Benin: a melting pot of people, faces, children and unforgettable stories.

During a trip to Turkey, after a trekking on a small island not far from Istanbul Mark asked me to tie the knot… from there, we started to fantasize about our wedding, of course we wanted it to be a traveling wedding! The funniest thing, of course, is planning our honeymoon.

Let’s say it will not be in the usual 5-star resort… at all! We’ll leave with our faithful backpacks for the Far East: we’ll start from Seoul, then who knows? You’ll find out by following us on Facebook, Twitter, and of course our own site.

Of course, we’ll try to sleep in as many hostels as possible! We really like the idea of a honeymoon in hostels! Living, expressing yourself, learning and mingling with travelers from all over the world is priceless. It is indeed true that traveling broadens your mind: we realize it every time!

If you are thinking about the same thing, just think about the difference between:

- a holiday in a 5-star hotel, with waiters speaking your own language, serving you own national food, telling you not to leave the hotel because “it might be dangerous”

- a hostel trip, meeting interesting and like-minded people, discovering the local spots where they can't even speak English, eating delicious food with broad-minded people… and feeling sad for those eating tasteless pasta in a resort wearing their ID bracelet.

Not such a hard choice, is it?

Our life is traveling. Traveling is what makes us live every moment more intensely, more deeply, until we totally internalize what our eyes can luckily see.

HostelsClub.com can't help but wish them a great wedding and a wonderful honeymoon!
