Dublin on a budget: where to eat and sleep low cost

06/30/2015

For a low cost holiday, here are tips from our local expert Arianna.

Dublin is an amazing city but a little bit expensive, even if it's cheaper than its British neighbour, London. According to what people having stayed there say this city is going to empty your wallet in a minute, but what about the people who live there? Do they agree with it?

We asked Arianna, an Italian girl from the blog Dublino con i miei occhi, who has been living in Dublin for ages, to tell us the truth for our #LocalTipsHC column. Here we have 4 places where to eat on a budget and a few suggestions where to sleep low cost.

DUBLIN ON A BUDGET: WHERE TO EAT LOW COST

Guinness

J.W.Sweetmans is a three-floor brewpub hosted in a historical building where you can enjoy a beautiful view on the O' Connel bridge. You can have a light meal for just 10 euro of spicy chicken wings or a sandwich with pork with a craft beer, made by the staff themselves. We recommend the Porter beer and Red Ale.

Millstone is a stylish restaurant right in the central Dame Street. The restaurant is full of ancient objects, that probably will make you go back in time as soon as you step in. Arianna suggests to try the set menu: a lunch costs about 10-15 euros and a dinner 19,95 euros (just from Thursday to Sunday evening, on Friday and Saturday this kind of meal is served just until 7 pm).

Cornucopia is the perfect place to go for a healthy and tasty meal, this is the most famous vegetarian and vegan restaurant in Dublin. This restaurant is located a few steps away from Grafton Street, the shopping street of excellence. Prices range from 5 to 10 euros for a salad and for the main course you will pay about 15 euros.

Simon's Place is Arianna's favourite café, located in the George's Arcade, a little-covered market in the heart of Dublin. The walls are decorated with posters of concerts and movies, the atmosphere here is relaxed and informal. Simon's Place opens till 5 pm but offers yummy soups, fresh sandwiches and the best blueberry cheesecake you can find in Dublin. Prices around 5 euros per person.
