HOW?

The Dusseldorf Carnival consists of hundreds of carnival sessions, meet&greets and costume balls. The absolute highlight of the celebration, however, is the "disorganized carnival". These include Carnival Sunday and Women's Carnival (=Weiberfastnacht meaning that women are in control). On Weiberfastnacht older women (so-called "Mohnen") storm the town hall. exactly at 11:11am. The goal is to cut off as many men's ties as possible. You can probably imagine this scene and how fun it is. On Carnival Sunday, thousands of locals or people from outside meet in the old town or on the Königsallee to celebrate. Jesters walk around with trolleys, where you can approve of refreshments, food etc. at any time On Ash Wednesday, the last day, fish is eaten together and the "Hoppeditz" (Typical figure of the carnival in Dusseldorf) is burned. This officially marks the end of the carnival, at least until November 11th. - when everything starts again. ;)

WHAT IS THIS YEAR'S MOTTO?

The slogan "Jeck erst recht" was selected from a total of 391 proposals by the executive board of the Comitee Düsseldorfer Carneval (CC) together with the carmaker Jacques Tilly. Jeck here refers to a participant of the carnival and is a Rhineland expression. By the way, the tradition of celebrating Carnival under a certain motto exists since 1950.

ACCOMMODATION?

Here you can find a selection of accommodation - but we especially recommend two hostels to you:

In the immediate vicinity of the old town you will find Youth Hostel Düsseldorf. Rated at 92%, it's close enough to save you the subway ticket, yet it's not in the thick of things, so you don't have to worry about the noise.

In case you come with your whole group of friends, or have the HostelsClub Membership Card - the A and O Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof will be perfect for you - there is a discount of 10% for groups of 20 people (minimum 3 nights). With the Membership Card you save 15% on 3 nights! The location is just as perfect as the Youth Hostel - what more could you ask for?

We wish you a colorful carnival party and lots of fun - Jeck erst recht ;)
