5 reasons to take a gap year

09/03/2015

Ever thought about a gap year? Here is why you are going to take one!

Who hasn’t ever dreamt of taking a gap year? Gap years are always in the back of our minds, an afterthought that never leaves us alone. The web is full of stories about people who decided to leave and take a full year for themselves, discovering new places and meeting new people. Let’s see the 5 reasons you, too, should take a gap year!

1. PUT YOURSELF TO THE TEST

Don’t think that a gap year is going to be a walk in the park: it might be full of wonderful places that will leave you slack-jawed, it might be a great adventure, but there will also be some struggling. You will have to find your way out of some situations alone, but it will be good for you! You will test yourself and you will come back a better person, without a doubt.

2. OPEN UP TO THE WORLD

Traveling in itself means meeting new cultures, often very different from your own, and having to adapt to the place where you are – not always an easy task! You will need a lot of open-mindedness, but it takes all sorts to make a world: what better way of finding out than taking a gap year?

3. TRAVELING CLEARS YOUR MIND

If you take a gap year you will travel a lot - and traveling helps to clear your mind. Whatever the reason you are taking this adventure, it will clear your mind and help you to think things through: it will not solve all your problems, but it will give you the courage and wisdom to face them!

4. GET A BREAK FROM REAL LIFE

Sometimes you just need to take a good break from everyday life, from identical days, from the same people in the same places, the same conversations… you feel like you need a big change of scenery, and a weekend just isn’t enough!

5. BROADEN YOUR CIRCLE OF FRIENDS

You will travel the world, meet new people and inevitably create new friendships. More often than not these new relations, born almost out of chance, or in very strange and unexpected situations, are the strongest ones, because they teach you about the value of distance.

So, are these 5 reasons enough for you to take a gap year? Of course, remember that there is no age limit for traveling or for gap years: just leave whenever you feel like!
