#10 Sebastian Scheichl: 'My photos are about capturing the beauty of nature'

01/04/2019

The Sixth Power is a new column dedicated to emerging or established influencers. Each week we give you a new interview with an influencer. This tenth post is dedicated to Sebastian Scheichl.

Hostelsclub's blog is hosting a new column dedicated to influencers, entitled 'The Sixth Power'. We are going to hear what they have to say, listen to their stories and discover their way of life. Many people would love to be like them, and influencers are one of the latest and most coveted professions. Their following, in some cases, exceeds the influence of the Heads of State. The Californian Kourtney Kardashian with 67.3 million followers, has more followers than the number of votes that led Donald Trump to the post of President of the United States of America in 2016. The Italian Chiara Ferragni, before having 15 million followers on Instagram and worldwide fame, was just a beautiful blonde girl. They're millionaires, but what exactly do they do? We'll find out, giving a voice to travel bloggers in particular. It is certain that their ability to influence is such that international brands rely on them by showering them with gold. Ten years ago, brands turned to televisions and newspapers, columns of modern media power. Now they rely on influencers. Television was called the fifth power, but is the sixth power influencers? From this question, the title of this column was born. There will be many good tips for those with attentive ears. On the other hand, it seems that it doesn't take much to become an influencer: a social profile, a little work and lots of imagination.

#10 Sebastian Scheichl: 'My photos are about capturing the beauty of nature'

Sebastian Scheichl (@zeppaio) is a romantic who has an oblique look on things. He belongs to the great array of landscape photographers that social media has launched to fame, although his originality and sensitivity to detail makes him stand out from the crowd. People or stories are almost never at the centre of his interest, but rather peaks, lakes, and wide-ranging visions of landscapes that mirror or thin out between ice and sky. They are solitary and silent places, where what little life is given is manifested in momentum and tension. Sometimes he is ironic, other times he seems like a poignant Nordic person of the late eighteenth century. He is young, Austrian and a student. But with his camera in hand, he tells us, he goes on a trip a month. We dedicate the tenth episode of The Sixth Power (the first of 2019) to him, hoping that his story is an inspiration for you.

Summits, peaks and lakes. What is your idea of Influencer?

Well, I try to motivate people in some way.

To do what?

To leave the house, climb a mountain, watch a sunrise over the lake and have fun outdoors in our wonderful nature. That's the important part!

Are you worried about being too impersonal?

I don't care about showing everything to my followers. I only usually show the moments when I'm out in the mountains or travelling to foreign countries.

And nothing about yourself?

Nobody wants to see boring university stuff, right?

Your photos are full of precious details, where do you find your inspiration?

Essentially through Instagram, scrolling through my feed and exploring various pages.

Therefore, is it more than just a pleasure to share your pictures?

There are many great creators out there and it's so nice that we can all share and see these photos online.

What passion drives your life?

My passion for photography and nature pushes me to invest more and more time into this hobby, but at the moment I am not pursuing a career in it.

But is it scheduled?

Right now I am still a student so I can only travel about once a month. Let's see what the future holds!

Having a good following often means dealing with being a celebrity.

I really don't feel like I'm at the centre of public attention because people only know me through my photos!

Future projects?

First I want to graduate and then I'll decide what to do. If photography is still as fun as it is now, I could pursue it as a career for sure.

HostelsClub is always promoting hostel culture. Why do you choose hostels rather than hotels during your travels?

Because staying in a hostel allows me to meet people from all over the world in one place. It's great!

It is often said that photos by influencers are not justice to the beauty of the places. What do you think about it?

Well, I've never been disappointed until now. The photos are generally true to the beauty of the place.

This section will be translated into the main languages among the 26 of our blog. If you are an influencer you want to tell us your story then write to us, we will evaluate your proposal and perhaps The Sixth Power will talk about you!
