About Hluhluwe Backpackers
Hluhluwe Backpackers offers tranquility and relaxation and much more: it's the ideal base to go explore the many, smaller, game reserves the surrounding area. Closest places include St Lucia Estuary (a World Heritage Site), where hippos' and crocodiles can be seen and boat trips be uundertaken. Cape Vidal Marine Reserve is ideal for snorkeling and en-route to St Lucia, the rare Samango Monkeys can be spotted. The Swaziland Border is +/- 1.5 hours drive way from Hluhluwe.

Room types
There are 5 double rooms in the main house with shared bathroom facilities. Separate from the main house outside, there is another double room with ablution facilities close-by and also a family room, which has 1 x double and 1 x single beds. The family room has an ensuite shower and toilet facility. All the rooms include linen. All rooms have either ceiling or stand-up fans.
Location and surroundings
Staff recommends you to join one of the open-vehicle game drives into the National Park, conducted by a professional Field Guide. Further information regarding the game drives are available on request. Extras include Zulu dancing, fire shows, star gazing, bird watching, trips to St Lucia Estuary (we offer a 3-day trip, information of which is also available on request) and surrounding areas including rural Zulu. Services and facilities
The hostel provides a fully equipped self-catering kitchen. If you are not in the mood for cooking, staff can spoil you with one of our tasty meals! There is a pub common area, although they don't sell alcohol on the premises. An outside eating area is available as well as a large garden area with a big boma/braai(bbq) so you'll have ample space to relax. Staff offers prior arranged braai or potjie meals at R80.00 p/p extra. Potjie is a traditional meal cooked over a fire in one cast iron pot.
