“Travel around the Turkish Half Moon” is the title of the festival dedicated to Turkish culture and history to be held on May 9-29, 2010 in Pécs: the European Cultural Capital 2010. Dances of whirling dervishes which join the Earth's rotation and more performances with samples of Turkish cuisine makes this an all-in-one event.

The first edition of the festival 'the trip around the Turkish Half Moon' was held in 2007 primarily to represent the traditions of the Balkans that remained in Hungary after the Turkish occupation of the sixteenth century. This year will be delve deeper into the Turkish culture with music, literature, photography, cinema and the best artists from Turkey and Hungary including Sarikamish, Amira Art Company, Replikas, Selim Sesler, Arasinda, and dancer, Ziya Azaz.

If you are interested in a trip to Pécs in May, there are various other cultural events in the city: the great show of Irish dance, the 'Lord of the Dance' with Michael Flatley (May 4th), the Festival of Literature (May 4-8), or the Folk Pécs Days (May 20-22). After the evening concerts, there will be informal courses on folk dancing involving the performers and the audiences.

JUNE: Theater, drama, and more drama!

Are you crazy about the theater? Then you definitely have to go to Pécs which will organize a countless number of shows. Starting June 3-12th, the National Theatre Festival (entitled 'POSZT' , the Hungarian abbreviation of the name) will present the results from last year and bring in new shows this year. Immediately afterwards, the traditional Open-Air Theatre Festival will preside for two months (June 12 to August 10th) amongst the backdrop of the picturesque in the city: theater, classical music, choral, folk and gypsy, modern dance and folk dance performances will be displayed - A large and varied feast for all tastes! Also, for the first time, they will also be host a group of gypsy artists who will perform in 5 shows reflecting the gypsy culture from June 17-20th.

If you prefer comedy and street theater, you have to wait a bit since the month of July has the Festival of Circus and Street Theatre (July 9-25) which is a lot of fun and will have unexpected happenings in and around the city of Pécs!

JULY:Music Festivals

During the summer in Hungary there are several music festivals, not only the grand Sziget festival which is now known throughout the world. The first stage will be setup for the EFOTT Festival, the national meeting of university students, on July 13-18, 2010. The festival has a history of more than 30 years, and every year it’s placed in a different university city. This year the location will be the beautiful Lake Orfű, near Pécs place where other programs such as the Circus Festival and the evenings with 'Music on the square'. But surely you will enjoy EFOTT all week with countless rock, alternative, and Hungarian pop music concerts, accompanied by various cultural programs.

The second stage is the ICWiP Festival (International Culture Week in Pécs, July 24-August 1, 2010) - a kind of international festival of the highest level. There will be concerts completely free in the main squares of Pécs! Some of the best of international music bands such as : Goran Goran and His Wedding & Funeral Orchestra , Çilekeş , Big Daddy Wilson, Russkaya , Karawane 2010, Zbogom Brusli, BxDxF or Besh Drom, Heaven Street Seven, Péterfy Bori + Love Band... in short, a festival not to miss! AUGUST & SEPTEMBER: Traditional Festivals

The rich cultural heritage, artistic and architectural that Pécs has is the inspiration for this great event. Since Pecs is the European Cultural Capital of 2010, it is organizing many events and festivals, but the 1st World Festival of Hungarian Culture is the culmination of it all. This festival to be held , September 14 -26, 2010 is dedicated not only to Hungarian culture but also to bring awareness of the pollution that takes place within Hungary and amongst its neighbors. These two weeks of music, theater, dance, science exhibits, evening events, and contemporary art will help give a complex image of Hungarian culture.

If you especially like folk dancing, you have to go there without a doubt, because during this period they will also organize the 4th International Dance Festival (September 20-26, 2010)! As you can see the programs are not lacking anything, so all you have to plan for is the ticket and where to stay!
