Superb position 100 m from the Ramblas and close to the tube station.Day shift manager speaks perfect english and is very helpful.Great value for 30 euro per night for a single en-suite

Nov 13, 2009 - Hostel is placed in the strict city center - 5 minutes from the port, 10 minutes from the old city, 3 minutes from metro station - the location is perfect!
There is a problem with the parking place - you have to additionally pay for it (16 Euro per each day).
The staff is funny and really helpful!

Nov 10, 2009 - It was in a good location, and it's nice that there's no lock out. Bed was really hard though and the guys that work there are kind of shady. Don't leave anything in the safe box, because I had money in mine and someone stole it. I should have known better, they ask to keep both your room key and safe box key, so how is it really safe? dumb.

Oct 12, 2009 - Clean and, to my surprise, very quiet, still, they don't accept Amex, and I was told they do, and unfortunately none of the three gentelman in the reception desk speaks English...the older guy is rather rude. But, hostel is very well located and cheap!
Sep 28, 2009 - We had a nice stay at the hostal. The hostal is located at the centre of Barcelona. It was clean. The personal was polite and at night it was calm. All in all the hostal is a good adress for holidays in Barcelona!
Sep 11, 2009 - It's easier to take the Bus #14 near to the Main Train Station, only 10mins drive! A bit noisy as my room was facing to another room!!
Sep 01, 2009 - Last august I've visited Barcelona with my son (12 years old). We were quite enthousiastic about our hostal, espescially because of the location. Hostal Portugal is situated close by Port Vell, 15 min. walk to the beach, but also close by the Rambla (at the end of the street), the Metrostation Drassane and the nice area of Barri Gothic, Raval and La Ribera. Our room was simple but had everything we needed; good beds (only the coverblankets could be replaced maybe?...) toilet, bath and shower and ac. Our room was cleaned every day, also with clean towels daily. The people who worked there were verry nice and helpfull, only the old man at times seemed a bit grumpy, probably due to his lack of English and my lack of Spanish?! The next time I will study more on my Spanish, it's more fun when you understand each other more easily.
