Nov 16, 2009 - A nice place to stay. Maybe too many people in one room, but it was not noisy or uncomfortable. Closing of rooms between 10 and 1 is kind of extreme but maybe necessary given the amount of people in each room for hygienic reasons
Nov 04, 2009 - Showers were terrible! And I got bitten by some sort of bug every night I was there. But the staff is nice, the rooms look clean, and the hostel is close to San Marco square, which is nice and central (but get a water taxi pass!)
Oct 06, 2009 - The night staff was very rude to me.The washrooms were disgustingly maintained,i was forced to buy a membership i didnt need. Ive stayed in cheaper hostels with elevators and cleaner washrooms. Next time I go to Venice I will try and find a cheap hotel.
Oct 01, 2009 - The YHA OSTELLO DI VENEZIA is not bad. It is conveniantly located right across the water from St. Marcs, which is actually pretty easy once you get the hang of the boat-bus schedule. The rooms and the beds were clean and each room was provided with a locker while you are staying.
Overall, it is a bit pricey and the amenities are far and few. My phone was stolen while in Rome, so I had to use both the internet and the phone. The hostel only has 3 computers for over 100 guests and it was expensive. After you check out, they do have lockers to use, but unlike a lot of hostels, they charge you. Meaning once you return your key, they keep your 2 euro deposit.
Overall, clean and relatively friendly, but not much else. It's not like you wanted to hang out there anyway, but if you got sick and had to stay in, you would be pretty disappointed.
Sep 28, 2009 - The hostel is ok, nice position, but a little noised in the night. Good breakfast.
Sep 27, 2009 - beds were terrible. PLEASE CHANGE THEM. everybody was complaining. they are way too soft was like sleeping in a hole. I had very bad rest and get sick because others open the window. staff at the reception was OK.
Sep 22, 2009 - fantastic location but sadly thats only positive of 3 nights. staff were not friendly, even when we needed there help they didnt seem to care or want to help, facilities were below average, toilet seats arent that hard to install! no character or personality to the hostel, not even maps of venice to help you!
Sep 22, 2009 - unless you experience the famous Venice mist (which I did the first morning: what happened??), you wake up admiring the view of San Marco. there are (only) worse ways to start the day... even better that you don't have to put up with the lousy crowds, since you stay on the quiet island where you can have nice walks, meet locals and visit upcoming galleries. it's marvellous to fall asleep on the sound of the waves of the canal. and what that never-tired-of-answering-your-stupid-questions staff charges for breakfast included is a hilariously small amount compared to the prices you pay in the city.
Sep 19, 2009 - I thought the hostel was good although with 16 people per dorm it was difficult to get a good nights sleep. I knew how many people were in each dorm before I booked so this wasn't unexpected. I think the breakfast could be better, it was very basic and not healthy. Maybe if you served fresh coffee, real orange juice and brown bread. Or even provided them if people paid a little extra.
Sep 16, 2009 - Clean & fabulously located hostel, all the views without the crowd, & easy to get around Venice from there.Quite friendly staff.
Downsides? Mattress was a bit saggy, & the daytime closure ( 10 - 1.30) can be a nuisance. Generally recommended.
