Nov 30, 2009 - READ CAREFULLY BEFORE/AFTER CONFIRMATION! Walter steals money. At the day I came to Walterhostel staff told me, that the price that I've got on my reservation-confirmation is not proper- it was written there 7,5 euro/night, but they wanted 15 euro for night!In such dirty and smelling place! I refused to pay, because it was cheating, and got to another, cheaper hostel- Cherry pentionhouse, just next door. Later I found that Walter charged my bank account for two nights, in spite of the fact, that it was them who broke the agreement, cheated and forced me to change the hostel. NEVER AGAIN! Oct 30, 2009 - The Walter house was amazing! The staff was so friendly and informative and you instantly felt that you'd made friends who could help you during your stay. The location was just a short walk from the colosseum and only a block from the metro, but nest of all, the apartment was huge, clean, comfortable and lovely. I highly recommend the Walter's to anyone who wants to experience rome from an Italian's perspective. We will definitely stay here again!
Oct 18, 2009 - Clean, very centrally located near the Termini Station. Breakfast a little bit better than the standard hostel fare. The kitchen could use some decent pots and pans. We had to buy some in order to cook anything.
Oct 11, 2009 - It's a perfect place for holidays! Clean, cheap, close to COliseum and train station, rooms are cosy and clean : from fairy tales. There's free internet and all you can it for breakfast. Owners are very nice and friendly.
Oct 11, 2009 - We stayed in this boys hostal in october for long weekend.We were very satisfied.Walter and Sisira, the ovners are very nice and friendly people,make very nice breakfest and the house smells after coffee.We had very nice room with bathroom and we recomend to everybody, who want to feel like home.
Oct 11, 2009 - What an extraordinary little hostel off the beaten path! Within walking distance to the main historical attractions (the Colosseum,Roman Forum , Nero's Golden House, the Spanish Steps, the Capitoline Hill) yet far enough away from the throngs of tourists that visit the city year-round. The evenings were nice and quiet (the rooms have sound-proof windows) and during the day the underground train stopped literally 2 houndred feet away from the hostel for easy access to tourist areas. My husband and I discovered the wonderful underground Metro system, which allows for daily tickets or these great weekly tickets which provide unlimited use of the buses for around 18 Euro per week per person. The nearest Metro station (Vittorio) was only a few step away and right next to a large square that offered garden and shops of course fresh deli meats and wonderful cheeses (not to mention superb Italian wine) that we would cart back to the hostel for a snack after long days of sight-seeing. I can't say enough about the Metro! We boarded at Vittorio station and within 10 minutes we were outside the walls of Vatican City across the Tiber River! Do mind your bags and wallets, however, as the Metro can get extremely tight and skilled pick-pockets are about. The hostel itself was a beautifully refurbished building with a free italian breakfast every morning (fresh espresso or American coffee,plumcakes, croissants and other bread toasted along with jam and Nutella chocolate paste), and of course a wonderful, friendly staff who were always ready to answer any questions about the sights or to recommend shopping or good restaurants nearby. All-in-all a wonderful stay, and we can't wait to go back in the summer time! The only negative aspect of the hostel that comes to mind were the firm mattresses which, if you have back issues like I do, may cause a bit of soreness but we just took the extra blankets in the closet and softened my side which worked fine. Other than that the stay was wonderful and we were sad to leave! We would definitely recommend this hotel to couples on a honeymoon!
