nice hostel with a great common room and nice neighbourhood. plus the subway to downtown is just next door.

I am not sure what "position" means above.

Prices are about average - inexpensive as any hostel, but not cheaper than other hostels.

Walls are very thin and rooms are loud compared to the Chicago HI hostel. I can hear footsteps and conversations through walls.

This is the first Hostel I've stayed at so I can only compare to Hotels I've been to. The Staff was Amazing! I had quick replies to emails and bookin was a breeze. They atmosphere was warm and homie. I loved that they were only a block and a half from the Blue line train and there was a 24 hr Walgreens right next door. Great coffee shops and resteraunts as well. I would definitely stay again without a second thought.

This was my first stay in the hostel. I would definitely recommend to a friend. The location is a big selling point. I only had 2 small problems while there (1) I had a problem locating my room -- I was in a different building than the main location. I tried to call the front desk several times, but it was busy. It was resolved quickly after we walked over to the main building, but it did have me panicking. (2) There was an alarm going off for HOURS on one of the mornings I stayed there. But other than these two minor things I enjoyed my stay. The hostel was clean. The staff was friendly. And, again, the location was prime.

I've only been to a few hostel, but this was definitely the nicest one. The rooms/facilities were all in excellent condition, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the surrounding neighbourhood was an awesome place to hang out. When I return to Chicago I will be staying here again.

I had an awesome experience staying at IHSP Chicago! I was a bit skeptical, having never stayed at a hostel before, but I had a great time meeting others my age from all over the world. Both staff and guests were very friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for an affordable place to stay in Chicago with easy access to downtown.

Although the 2nd kitchen was posted that it wasn't fully equipped, there could have at LEAST been some paper towels to help with cleaning.

The area my friend & I were in (both female) was almost completely filled with men. I did NOT feel comfortable. Most locks on the showers were minimal at BEST, one not even working.

The staff might need a bit more training when they're new. Info about cash key deposits BEFORE check-in would be good. Also, while it was quietER (relatively), being in the building away from the kitchen and L stop wasn't thrilling.

It's a nice hostel with a helpful staff. The location is a bit far from most of chicAgo's sights but resides in a neighborhood with lots of restaurants and other stores especially fashion. You can't stay In the dorm rooms unless you have a student i.d. So there's that.

Great. Except we were in a separate building down a long road (about three quarters of a mile away), which was a bit annoying as we had no kitchen facilities, vending machine, and similar. If they advertise these facilities, then they should have them in both buildings as the best part of a mile is too far to walk in the rain to get to the vending machine or breakfast.....

I can't speak highly enough of this place--just spent a whole week there and felt downright pampered. Free pancakes, clean bathrooms, helpful staff, and a million things to do within a few blocks in any direction.

Cette auberge de jeunesse est très bien, et assez récente. L'accueil est parfait et c'est bien placé, pas trop loin du centre de Chicago. Nous y avons dormi deux nuits et l'emplacement de l'auberge nous a permis de voir la vie en dehors du centre de Chicago tout en appréciant une proximité avec le centre-ville (20 minutes en métro).

It was a nice, clean hostel with fun young people to hang out with. The location was very convenient, too. Do not overlook that they charge euro. So be sure that your credit card does not charge extra for euro transactions.

Great hostel! Situated in the nice Wicker Park Area of Chicago, where you have everything you need: music, bars, cheap and tasty restaurants, record and book stores.

The staff is super friendly and awesome and shows you the nice places.

The hostel provides free computers and wi-fi, free pancakes for breakfast all you can eat!, vouchers for bars and restaurants, towels, sheets, printer, pool, billard, tv, netflix, nintendo wii and so on. The hostel roof top is a great place to be at night!

I've been to many hostels so far, but the atmosphere of IHSP Chicago is unique! Can't wait to be back.

PERFECTION. The room was B E A U T I F U L. The staff is great, the one lady is so sweet and nice and helpful. Very clean. It's very close to the blue line for easy transportation.

The location of the hostel is very nice. In the street are many sweet shops. We stayed in the new private rooms which are very nice. Unfortunately, we had neighbours who were very noisy during the night and the walls are not that thick.

Stayed at a private. The room was made without love, but quality differs extremely from room to room. My friend was lucky and had a very spacious room while mine was a shoe box. It is not mentioned that there is a gym at one of the upper floors above the floor where the privates are. The walls are unfortunately that thin that the instructions from the instructor wake you up each morning at 8am.

Right in the heart of one of Chicago's coolest neighborhoods. Better than a Marriott because of the people. All friendly, interesting. You can travel the World or stay here and wait for it to come by. Built out of old apartment houses, every room has its own character. Our's was in the second building on top floor. A little cool in there but more private. It was more like being at a big party and having your own room right there. Wyatt Lansdale and very friendly staff kept things running so you could just relax and enjoy the niceness of it all. Oh and very affordable.

A few recommendations: 1) Let people know if they are staying in the building down the street so they don't needlessly haul their bags around for no reason. 2) Two different deposits (cash and photo ID) should be streamlined. Also, if a photo ID deposit is required for a parking spot make this known before someone arrives. 3) The showerheads are mini fire hoses. You can get some very nice low-flow showerheads for under $10.

Good hostel.

Staff friendly, rooms clean, free breakfast is a plus. Only gripe would be the heat in the rooms, way too hot and no windows in a lot of rooms.

Me and my 5 friends really enjoyed our stay at IHSP. The layout was perfect and the staff were very nice and welcoming. I would really like to stay there again when I come the next time. Since my friends and I are all college students this dorm set up worked out fine for us and not to mention it fit into our budget perfectly. We really loved our stay at IHSP, Thank you for being so wonderful :)

I LOVE IHSP Chicago at Damen. The staff is always so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The location is excellent. And, seriously, give me the Armitage more often and I'll never stay anywhere else.

IHSP's location is key. The staff makes the logistics easy. The money is what money? Cheap. The free pancakes or the balcony what else do you need? I can't wait to book this summer a room here at least once a month. The other huge hostel we stayed at was not as fun and welcoming as IhSP staff. They answer phone calls normally (not high as f) and they give you your room early if they can not just look at you when you show up an hr early why would you want to stay here rooms aren't ready come back in an hr. no make us feel welcomed. Can't try new hostels only ihsp. It puts backpackers in a position to be comfortable and not high as eff on the highway doing 22 in a 65 thinking you got thrown out the window at urban hostel by suqjmdkaksURbANjdjamsmmsmhOSTEL speaking when you call but your so high you aren't even talking to anyone. Stay at ihsp and be above the rest.

This hostel is amazing. Staff. Bucktown. Near everywhere. Meet new people every visit. The balcony is good for a smoke can't wait for summer nights that don't end. The owners took a piece of real estate and made it the best hostel in Chicago easily and in the US for me. I've been to a couple more in Chicago boo and few in NY this is where everybody comes after New York and hear them saying IHSP IHSP IhSP

I highly recommend IHSP HOSTEL if you want to stay in a well located place near the Loop of Chicago. Staff members are awesome and very helpful. You get around very easy with the outstanding CTA Train system in Chicago. One block away from the Damen station. Great bars and restaurants across street. Great value for your staying in Chicago. I will go back. Thank you Wiley, Olivia, you guys were great!

Cold water at night in the annex and when someone took a shower in the morning at 7:30 it set off the smoke detector... but one of the nicest hostels I've stay in. Great location.
