*really enjoyed our stay!

*stayed 4 nights in a private room: very spacious and had useful furniture + mini fridge, clean, quiet, bed was comfortable and linens were nice quality.

*shower flow/pressure was super strong and difficult to adjust but it got the job done.

*free DIY pancake breakfast/coffee: kitchen tidy/organized, with composting/recycling and a nice sheltered patio/picnic table area off the back.

we were pretty self-sufficient on this trip so other than the kitchen we didn't utilize/explore the other features/facilities but i do know there was a laundry room and computers/wifi available. kitchen + laundry aren't open 24/7 and there are often line-ups- take it into account for your day's plan.

the building overall was really neat: older but well-maintained and with plenty of character. the decor was tasteful with a hint of class but still casual and welcoming. atmosphere seemed mellow-fun.

*if you have a vehicle to park, the hostel gets a discounted flat rate at a nearby garage which they can give you a coupon for. this is one of the best rates for underground parking. However, if you look around, or ask locals, there are unrestricted spots available for free.

*staff were average helpful/knowledgeable, but very pleasant. (i often see complaints in hostel reviews regarding poor staff guidance so here is some advice if you felt this way: take the time/responsibility to plan out your agenda and get familiar with the city's details BEFORE your trip. hostel staff can be helpful but don't go relying on someone else to make your day. tip: check out online forums where the city's locals post stuff - you can often save money and avoid tourist traps this way. cab drivers also have a wealth of information, if you chat them up just right. Anyway, please, IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR HOTEL SERVICE, GO TO A HOTEL OR B&B. hostels are for budget-minded travelers who understand that less $ = less services or less space or less 'something'. if you change your perspective, you will have a good time no matter where you are).

Overall this hostel was great. Good value, good location.

While the host on arrival was friendly and helpful he failed to tell me that the shower in my room was not working. When I awoke 5:30am I could not get it going and had to just wash. When I told the guy at the front desk, rather than saying sorry, can we give you a voucher for next time, we will put a sign with instructions or anything he was just rude. I was very unimpressed. Other points fine, but that really put me off. All the best.

Everything was very good. The staff was pretty nice, all of them. The only thing I didn´t like is the breakfast offered. However, I recommend the hostel.

The last time I was in your hotel in San Francisco was 21 years ago. Staff was not good in educating a customer about the hotel policy that they don't empty the trash or clean the room only if you request. 2nd night I asked if they will empty the trash the front desk they can't do anything about it until the next morning somebody will empty it. I asked @ 2:00 PM if they will still empty the trash they said before 4:00 PM I asked again @ 4:30 PM the cleaning lady was already gone and the noght shift front desk forgot to put me in the list to be clean I am not even asking to be clean just to empty the trash. I got it the price was really cheap but to sacrifice the health and safety of the customer that is beyond the american standard. I wouldn't even think that it happened here in America.

Great location, very good value for money - you even have breakfast and bedsheets included, very helpful staff. The "breakfast" isnt what you would expect though, but for the overall price I cant complain.

Paid for a private room, the shower and TV didn't work, and was also extremely noisy. Others' smoking permeated the room and made it smell. Frequent door knocking at about 4/4.30 in the morning, at one time supposedly management to fix a toilet that wasn't broken. Good location but amenities average

Its and old building, whith a very small kitchen. They should make a bigger dining area, with more chairs and tables, The bathrooms were ok. My problem was that imade a reservation for 3 guys and they split ther room. And they didnt do anything for changin that(very bad stuff)

It was a nice hostel for the most part. The rates were reasonable but the general up keep of the building was in need or repair, some of the lights and ceilings were bordering on unsafe. The pancake breakfast was a nice idea but in practice there were too many people trying to make pancakes and there was a long line to make some pancakes.

Staff were barely pleasant. One guy was okay, the rest were less than friendly, unhelpful, and unwelcoming. One guy was outright rude and nasty.

The dorm room wasn't cleaned daily, which you would think would be necessary for a shared room.

The building itself was very typically 1950's San Fran. Not renovated, pokey, dark, old carpet and fixtures. With that old smell ever looming.

Location was very good however. So if you don't mind the rest as long as you can roll out on to Union Square and China town, then go for it.

a good place to sleep, a terrible place to spend time. The common area is in the dark and claustrophobic basement, free pancake breakfast is offered in the kitchen, but there are only three shaky tables and only five chairs...really no place to communicate...AND: you shouldn't try to fix EVERYTHING that is broken with stickytape.

Normal hostel. It's not so comfortable but it's ok to pass few days for a cheaper price. I just hate that they didn't have enough outputs... in a bedroom for 6 there was only 2 in the bedroom and 2 in the bathroom.

Overall a very good experience. This was my first time at a hostel and I am happy to say it did not scar me ;) I will probably go again, but just not stay as long as I did last time. It was pretty clean, very good internet WIFI, and terrific location.

There are other hostels that give free beer each night, but I think that kind of a place will attract largely the drinkers. Here, instead, I literally got to talk to people from around the world.

Only downside: their bunk beds shake at every vibration and it is very hard to get down and up. Adjusting the hot water in the shower can also require some MacGyver skills, but it can be done :)

Great place to stay if you're willing to cable car or train it everywhere but those options are close by! Friendly staff but some very creepy other guests including those who moved my travel partner's belongings off his bed three times, despite asking staff to ask him to stop! But you can't have everything! Kitchen was always being used by people so we never got a chance :( But overall - very nice :)

I made a reservation to stay for ten days because it was very cheap through the website. Before I made reservation, the lady who works for the website said that I can cancel at anytime and get 90 percent of refund. So I went there with my family. The room was not ready till 5pm because they need to clean the room. So I had to wait for few hours after we arrived from the Airport. It made us upset and tired. So they suggest to put my luggage in the luggage storage. After I got back from Cafe around 5pm. Some of my personal items like homemade food and present for my close friends. So I told the front desk about the incident. The lady said "oh, there is sign at the door says 'We are not responsible for lost items', so we can't do anything about it". Then I talked to the general manager on the phone and ask if I can check the CCTV or get compensation about the incident. The manager said, he could not find anything wrong with the CCTV on the hallway. He said he can't show it to me the CCTV as well. So I asked for refund. But the Manager said he can not give us refund because we already checked in to the hotel. He did not apologized about what I experience at the storage room.

I called the website lady again, she said the refund policy is depends on the general manager at the cite. Which RETURN POLICY did I supposed to agree to if they have different opinions about it?

It truly ruin my first day of arriving beautiful city of San Francisco. It also upset my feeling and my family's feeling as well about the behavior of the general manager as well.

I am writing so no more people get the same incident as I got.

L'hotel e' bruttissimo. Ha la moquette consumata in più punti,le camere sono piccolissime e a noi si è' addirittura otturato il wc!! È' rumoroso da morire,alle 9 di mattina qualche pazzoide passa l'aspirapolvere fuori le stanze impedendo ti di dormire,in più le pareti sono sottilissime e gli scarichi delle stanze vicine fanno un rumore pazzesco ogni volta che qualcuno va al bagno. Non ci tornerei mai più!!

夜遅くまで外が騒がしく眠れませんでした。個室を利用したのですが、2段ベットは古くて上の段にどうやって乗り降りしたら良いのか？不思議に思うくらい困難でした。寝る為だけだからどこでも良いならOKかもしれません。無料の朝食はワッフルではなくパンケーキでした。（生地があり自分で焼くシステム）

Pesadelo! Cheiro horrível, ambiente de fumantes. Café da manhã piada, com um balde de massa de panqueca pra cada um preparar a sua...tudo parecia sujo. As cobertas eram ridículas, com furos enormes! O quarto não viu limpeza durante os 7 dias que estivemos lá, nem ao menos o lixo retiraram. Os únicos pontos fortes são localização e wifi.

Me & my wife had a private room, which had sufficient space and was clean. However, it was not an 'Hotel'-room as advertised (only service on demand etc.).

As a Hostel it is a nice place with friendly staff and organized bar-trips.

This is a clean cheap place to stay. It's on the border of the dodgier tenderloin area of San Francisco so you don't want to stray too in the wrong direction from the hotel, unless of course you are sweet with used hyperdermic needles and zombie apocalypses.

Recomiendo el Hostal a los interesados del futuro; estuve allí ccon mi familia 10 días. Es económico y está muy bien situado.

Recomiendo a los administradores tener muy limpio el cuarto para cuando lleguen huéspedes nuevos. Cuando yo llegué, las almohadas tenían pelos pegados y se veían sucias. Es mi única crítica

A decent hostel with a good location. Not a very pleasant atmosphere, everywhere you go there are rules posted on the wall telling you what you can't do. The major negative point is the staff- the most unfriendly people i've ever met. You seriously have to make an effort to be so unfriendly and cold.

Noisy hostel, you can hear ppl coming up the stairs at night and doors closing. Seems to also be in a busy area - lots of police sirens.

Good place. Clean, Staff was helpful and informative. It is maybe a half a mile walk to the hostel from the BART station, the hike isn't bad. It's also maybe a mile walk from the hostel to the waterfront, which is pretty awesome. You could also take the trolley, but that's kind of a pain, too many people and too expensive.

Very nice facility with very friendly people at the reception. Free internet and Wifi. Laundry facilities available, and a kitchen for making your own pancakes. They even have a shower for not-yet-checked-in-guests .Rooms can be a little cold, but that's ok.
