A few dozen meters from the thread of the Po River, the Guastalla Hostel is a renovated building where the pontieri (riverkeepers) used to live. The bonds that people living here have with the Po are deep. The river has always been, in fact, a food supply and an invaluable path of communication. The Natural Reserve here is of special interest, and the bend of the Po on which the hostel sits is a few meters from the town center of Guastalla, which was founded during the first millennium and an important cultural center during the reign of the Duke of Gonzaga, when this famous family inherited the capital.
