विवरण: Dar El Ghalia is a prince palace built back in the 19th century. It is named after the great favourite of the late Hadj Omar LEBBAR, founder of the palace. El GHALIA, an authoritarian woman both loved and feared for her strong personality (when she shouted, walls trembled…), was in charge of the education of his three children and managed the household with an iron hand.

At Dar El Ghalia, all the rooms are organized around the central patio (space dedicated to main activities). Omar LEBBAR named all rooms and suites after the women who had marked the palace by their presence in the past. They are all decorated in a lush oriental style and will transport you into an authentic fairy tale of thousand and one nights.

Faithful to its culinary tradition, the palace houses a well-known restaurant with a table d'hotes of great fitnese servibg true Fassi cookingOn our terrace you can appreciate the Fes gastronomy while enjoying a unique view on the whole medina with its uncountable minarets. //Lala Rkiya (royal suite) : LALLA RKIYA is the current owners’ mother. Proud of her origins, she was initiated to the secrets of the oriental art of living and filled this historic suite with a most distinguished atmosphere that can still be felt nowadays. The suite includes three rooms, a central living room with an open fire place, and two bathrooms.

//Oum Hani : LALLA RKIA’s mother and grandmother of Omar LEBBAR (the current owner of Dar El Ghalia) was originated in Marrakesh. She often came to visit her daughter and knew how to impose herself with grace and spirit as a highly appreciated mother-in-law.

//El Guamra : El Guamra (« The Moon ») was the nickname of Fatna Lebbar, the wife of Hadj Omar Lebbar’s oldest son. Fatna Lebbar got her romantic nickname because of her outstanding beauty: she had a white complexion, blue eyes and an evenly round face. She was known for her grace and her generosity.

//Laaziza : Widow of several husbands who let her a huge wealth, Laaziza came as a stranger to the LEBBAR family to seek protection by Hajj Omar LEBBAR as she felt that her life was in danger and she risked to loose her fortune. She lived many years with the LEBBAR family who considered her as a family member and who generously offered her free shelter and food.

//Skalia : Skalia MIKO, wife of Hajj Omar LEBBAR’s youngest son Thami, is originated from an old Fassi family that is well-known in commercial, industrial and craftsmen’s circles. People liked to confide in her as she always took the time to listen and to help those who were in need.

//Ezzarka : Zineb, the wife of Hajj Omar LEBBAR’s second son Abdeslam, is issued from the famous intellectuals LAZZRAK family. Several brothers and cousins of Zineb are theologians and she also is of exceptional intelligence. As a matter of fact she remembers precisely all birthdays, dates of family events and history. She is so to say a real living encyclopedia.

The three of them were not only concubines, but they also shared the responsibility over the kitchen.

Zhioua room

This other concubine was originated in the Great South, in the famous southern Glaoui tribe. She was admired for her extraordinary qualities such as always finding the right answer to any question and thus became a great confident. She was a steady guest of Lalla Rkiya in Fes which she was very fond of and for whom she had the highest respect. Lalla Rkiya’s children followed this habit of inviting “Mi Zhioua”, as they called her, till she died.

She was the current owner’s personal nanny. She had grown and educated him from his birth until the age of 19.
