It's a must for a real Balkan experience
"When a man stays overnight in Mostar, it is not the sound that wakes him up in the morning, but the light. I know this from my own experience. The light welcomed me when I arrived in Mostar, followed me during my stay from morning to evening, and later, after I had departed, it stayed in me as the main characteristic of my memory of Mostar - Ivo Andric" . Light is just one of the Mostar's wonders, let's check the rest out altogether.
Browse around Kujundžiluk
Kujundžiluk is a cobblestoned pedestrian alley that flanks the Neretva and takes you directly to the Stari Most. It it traditionally known as "gold alley" since it was Mostar's ancient commercial area, the old bazar with more than 500 shops and workshops. It's now crowded with restaurants and bars, little shops selling anything, from small ornaments with little value to unique artwork made by local craftsmen; check out a copper workshop if you have the chance. The best time to visit it is early in the morning, when shops are still closed and you can enjoy it at its best.
Visit the Koski Mehmed Paša Mosque
Buil in 1618, that's one of the Mosques not to be missed: it has a nice back garden vith view on Stari Most and a nice courtyard with an ablution fountain. Climb up the small minaret to enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree view all over Mostar.
Have some Bosnian coffee
Order a Bosanska kafa, a Bosnian coffee served in a džezva and sipped from a small white cup called fildžan with sugar cubes
It's always about food
Indulge in food in one of the several little restaurants you'll find around the old town. Have Mućkalica, stew made of grilled meat and vegetables.
Step into the Biscevica Kosak
Take off your shoes first and get ready to discover how life was in a 17th-century Turkish style house built for a very wealthy Bosniac Family; enjoy the different rooms, the original furniture, carpets and the beautiful secluded garden and courtyard. It's still one of Mostar's off the beaten track highlights and that's why you will love it!
Do not forget
Mostar is now a lively city but let's not forget how badly it was hit by the war in the 1990s. A visit to the Former Front Line and the War Photo Exibition make you question yourself and understand why war is never the answer.
Walk through the Stari Most and see the divers jumping
Built in the 16th century, destroyed during the war and reopened in 2014, this Ottoman bridge is a UNESCO listed site and Mostar's grand highlight. Do not miss the bridge jumping taking place daily on the bridge: divers from the local Diving Club jump down this 20-metre high bridge. Brrr. Every July, there is even a diving competition with professional divers: this year is the 477th edition!
