Visiting Asia in December? Here are some of the best places to visit!

09/22/2016

Are you taking a trip to Asia this December? Well why not! But choose your destination wisely - here are some tips to help you make a decision.

When planning a trip to Asia, the first thing you need to bear in mind is the time of year when you will be visiting. December is a great month to travel to many Asian countries, but it may not suit everyone. For example, the north of India in December will be very cold, with maximum temperatures in New Delhi only reaching 15 degrees and lows sinking to around zero. On the other hand, in the south of India, temperatures can reach up to 32 degrees at the same time of year, so you can see why it's so important to know which are the best countries in Asia to visit during December.

Here are some of the best choices:

PHILIPPINES

In the Philippine Islands, December is the start of the dry season which continues until May before giving way to the rainy season. If you don't want to be drenched all day (and not because you're swimming in the ocean), but would rather enjoy the glorious sunshine and crystal clear water, a trip here would be a great Christmas gift.

WHERE TO STAY IN THE PHILIPPINES

The city of Manila is definitely a good place to start as it is the capital of the Philippines, which makes it easy to enjoy the complete tourist experience and find plenty of cheap hostels such as the fantastic Tambayan Capsule Hostel & Bar!

You should also consider visiting Boracay, a true island paradise with its famous white beach. There are plenty of resorts here, however you can find hostels on Boracay Island for as little as just over €7 per night!

NEPAL

The best time of year for trekking is between September and December, but be careful - you should try to go during the first few weeks of the season as later on the weather will become more severe making hiking up the mountains much more difficult.

Accommodation in Nepal is really cheap, and with hostels in Kathmandu costing from as little as €3.50 for a night at The Family Peace Hostel up to around 13 Euros for a night at the Alliance Hotel, there is nothing to stop you arranging your stay.

MALAYSIA

Malaysia enjoys a tropical climate practically the whole year round which is why it's one of the best Asian countries to visit in December.

Malaysia doesn't really have a rainy season, as in both the east and west there is rainfall pretty much all year round. In December, however, it's best to avoid the area around Borneo, where the rain can be quite intense.

Hostels in Malaysia's largest city, Kuala Lumpur, have surprisingly low prices. The price range is more or less the same as you would find in Nepal, from the Fernloft (Malaysia) Kuala Lumpur hostel at 3.70 Euros per night right up to the Sri Enstek Hotel Near To KLIA & KLIA2 which costs 15 Euros.

THAILAND

Thailand has three distinct seasons over the course of the year: the rainy season, the cool season and the warm season. The best season of the three to visit is certainly the middle one, which runs from November to February.

If your plan is to visit Bangkok and live out your own version of The Hangover 2, you'll have no difficulty in finding a hostel - it's a big city and there's a lot of competition, so here's our suggestions

Cazz Hostel: Named after the cats that live in the hostel, this is a cheap and comfortable place to stay.

Cubic Pratunam: if you're a fan of geometric shapes, this hostel might interest you. The beds here are "pod-style" i.e. they are bunk beds with their own privacy curtain, light, hanger and small bedside table.

However, if you would prefer to relax by the waves and unwind on the Thai beaches, you could always visit nearby Pattaya and stay at the True Hostel, or go down to the island of Koh Samui and enjoy a true paradise on earth at the colourful Behind The Scenes Hostel Club @ Samui.

If, on the other hand, you're seeking adventure, we would advise you to take a trip to Southeast Asia to follow the Banana Pancake Trail. Have you never heard of it? You can find out more about it here.
