Do not miss our Nuremberg guide with important insider tips

What to do in Nuremberg? The German city "Nürnberg" is situated on the Pegnitz river. Here we provide an overview of places of interest, the most lively pubs, bars and clubs, the best shopping areas and the most delicious food.

Places of interest

Go for a walk through the amazing downtown of Nuremberg and visit the landmark of the city, which is the Imperial Castle (Kaiserburg).

If you like history, you can find a lot of histrical buildings in Nuremberg, like churches (Frauenkirche, St. Sebald and St. Lorenz), cemetries, the town wall, bridges and fountains, the underground vault and Albrecht Dürer's House (a Nuremberg Fachwerkhaus that was the home of the Renaissance artist) with a museum.

Also visit the famous fountain Ehekarussell (Marriage-Merry-Go-Round), related to the poem “Bitter-Sweet Married Life” by Hans Sachs. It depicts married life from the first stages of ardent love leading to death. Well worth seeing is Henkersteg (a wooden bridge over the river Pegnitz), the idyllic Weinstadel (former wine depot) and the Planetarium, where you can watch the stars!

There is also an endless number of museums, like the toy museum (Spielzeugmuseum), the State Museum for Art and Design (Neues Museum für Kunst und Design), whose glass facade stands out of the medieval buildings and Lochgefängnisse (Medieval Dungeons).

Nightlife

Experience a perfect night in Nuremberg and feel the vibe of the glamorous city.

There are a lot of discos, bars and clubs, like the small "Club Stereo" (varied music and events), the modern "Club Goija", the cult club "Mata Hari", the entertaining "Bar Blau" and the dance temple "Planet".

You can spend a relaxing evening at "Cafe & Bar Celona Finca", enjoy a cool karaoke session at "Karaoke Bar Hallertor", visit the gay bar "Große Liebe", or try the the best home-made-fries at the eccentric O Shea´s Irish Pub.

The nightlife is located everywhere in the old town, but especially in "Klaragasse" you can find everything.

In summertime you can sit in the beer garden, in wintertime you can visit the christmas markets (Weihnachtsmarkt) and drink hot wine.

Shopping

If you want to go shopping in Nuremberg, you can visit the huge department stores with a great selection. We recommend Ludwigsplatz, Karolinenstraße and Langwasser. At Breiten Gasse you will find whatever your heart desires.

But also take a closer look at the second-hand shops and craftworks. Here the emphasis is placed on fair trade, regionality and sustainability.

At Hauptmarkt and on the way to the Imperial Castle you can buy original souvenirs.

Gingerbread (big)

Food and beverages

After an extensive shopping spree, treat yourself to a little break! Gardens, parks and cafes invite to relax. You definitely have to try some of the typical specialities in this area.

To be tasted at all costs: The popular gingerbread (usually a traditional German baked Christmas treat, but not only available at Christmas), as well as the typical Nuremberg Bratwurst (grilled sausage made of pork), often served with Sauerkraut (pickled cabbage), Brezel or Kartoffelsalat (potato salad).

There are a lot of historical restaurants with relaxed atmosphere, you can find them on every corner, for example "Gutmann am Dutzendteich", the colorful "Lorenz", or "Bratwurst Röslein" in the inner city, to name but a few.

Have a nice trip and... Guten Appetit!
