Two maps to explain how a New Yorker feels in Paris, and vice versa.
Stings’s 1987 hit “Englishman in New York” was a song about actor and writer Quentin Crisp, who moved from London to the Big Apple. The moral of the song is about being yourself, keeping your own style and persona, and refuse standardization. Even if the price is living like a stranger, in a foreign land.
Graphic designer Vahram Muratyan may have been humming this very song when he started working on his “Paris versus New York” project. It is a stylish research, comparing and exploring traditions, stereotypes characters and curiosities of the 2 famous cities. The author himself lives between Paris and New York, and he has built his success on his life experience. He knows well how the two cities differ – and what they are similar in – and he highlighted the differences in his catchy and funny illustrations and graphics.
His last project includes two maps to understand how a Parisian feels in New York, and vice versa: let’s check them out!
