12/28/2015

Have you ever considered visiting Ljubljana? Here are the things you cannot miss out!

Shortly beyond the Italian border, after Gorizia, you find Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

It’s a jewel with clear Austrian influences who has not given up its own identity, though.

Ljubljana can be visited in one day only, here are the must-see things you cannot absolutely miss out!

1. TRIPLE BRIDGE

Right half way along the river quay, there it the so-called triple bridge, composed by 3 bridges that have become by now Ljubljana landmark.

2. A STROLL AROUND THE HISTORIC CENTRE

Historic Centre

In the old city, you can stroll around the building with strong Austrian influences and check out the several stands and street artists.

3. PREŠEREN SQUARE

Named after the Slovenian poet Preseren, it boasts a nice view on the Triple Bridge and the Castle. A statue of the poet stands in the square which is surrounded by the Hoffmann Palace and by the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation.

4. LJUBLJANA CASTLE

Ljubjana Castle

A visit to the castle is worth its while: the premises have been fully refurbished and in the prison cells, an audio system reproduces the voices of the prisoners who were locked in (in English too).

It’s picturesque and suggestive, with a nice view. Allow enough time for a walk in the garden.

5. A WALK ALONG THE RIVER

If you are on holiday with your sweetheart, you must take a walk along the river at dawn and have a drink in one of the many bars on the way.

Colors differ depending on the season, providing excellent snapshots.

Whether you travel alone or in good company, don’t miss this out

6. METELKOVA

One of the peculiarities of this city, it’s this community social centre, housed in a former military barrack. Live concerts are frequently organized as well as interesting exhibitions

WHERE TO SLEEP IN LJUBLJANA

Hostel Tivoli: with a prime city centre location, only a 10-minute walk away, it’s not far from Tivoli Park. This hostel has an interesting calendar of social events and it’s run by travelers who know exactly how to deal with their guests’ needs and requests.

Hostel Tresor: this hostel is housed in a former bank, and it is to be considered as one of the most famous hostels in the world. Are you not curious to check the former underground caveau out?

Whether you’re interested in trekking or a city break, there are plenty of things to see and do in Slovenia. Check out some of our suggestions here.
