If money is tight on your travels, then you can enjoy some amazing cuisine at budget prices in Berlin’s alternative district.

With its bohemian artwork and immigrant population, Kreuzberg’s restaurants are popular with young creatives and travellers. Home to an eclectic range of Turkish eateries, vegetarian bars and street food stalls, you can save fortunes eating out in Berlin’s coolest neighbourhood.

We’ve rounded up some our favourite Kreuzberg restaurants for you to enjoy on your travels.

1. Doyum Grillhaus - 37, Admiralstraße 36

Located in the seedy ghetto corner of Kottbusser Tor, Doyum Grillhaus is a traditional Ocakbasi restaurant serving Adana kebabs. Kreuzberg can appear intimidating at first, but the food on offer will certainly reward your wanderlust.

Adana Kebab is a skewered spiced lamb meat served with aubergine, tomatoes, rice, peppers and pita bread. Far tastier than your standard late night fare, you can enjoy this Turkish delicacy for less than ten euros. Super cheap and popular with locals, if you want to get real in Kreuzberg then look no further than Doyum Grillhaus.

2. Kimchi Princess - Skalitzer Str. 36

Asian restaurant in Berlin: Kiminchi Princess

Buzzing with trendy hipsters, the Kimchi Princess is a super cool Asian restaurant. Named after a cabbage and located west of Treptower Park, the Korean restaurant has a glamourous touch. Super cool and barbeque friendly, they will even grill meat dishes at your table.

If you are not in the mood for a barbeque, then the Gun Mandu homemade fried dumplings with pork or vegetarian are simply divine. If you have no money and can only afford to eat a starter, then fear not, you can get tasty free samples in-between your dishes, like Kimchi spicy cabbage.

3. Room 77 - Graefestraße 77

best pub in Berlin: Room 77

If you’re completely broke, or don’t want to dine at a proper restaurant, then look no further than this Kreuzberg institution. Serving American burgers, fajitas and enchiladas surrounded by vintage chairs and tables, Room 77 is your classic Kreuzberg experience. More like a bar than a restaurant, you can sit on a couch and eat while knocking back a few beers. Perfect for the laid back traveller, Room 77 is the most rock’n’roll burger joint in town.

4. Max und Moritz - Oranienstraße 162

Serving classic Deutsch fare such as Wiener Schnitzel and Eisbein (pork knuckle) for over 100 years, it's a brilliant place to experience the real Berlin. Come evening they have jazz bands performing and you can bob your head on the retro furniture while drinking a large jug of beer.

5. Café V -

Café V, vegan restaurant in Berlin

Travellers can expect the likes of fennel and orange bean soup at Café V. Changing the menu every week, this popular vegetarian restaurant in Kreuzberg is a local favourite and serves huge portions. Looking out across to the Lausitzer Platz, you can dine outside on warmer days and check out their Facebook page to see their latest menu.
