As you know, bigger does not always mean better, especially when we are talking about European cities. In every European country there are many small villages or cities, kept as secrets. From the colorful Portugal city of Coimbra with its stunning sea views to a small village in Montenegro, there are many places to be discovered, all of them well worth the extra effort to get there. HostelsClub.com picked 10 undiscovered European destinations and 10 hostels there.

Tivat, Montenegro

A small city Tivat offers picturesque scenery and natural beauty. Enjoy walking through cobble-stoned tiny streets and admire the medieval architecture. Coimbra, Portugal

The students' city of Coimbra is a vibrant town with plenty of historical attractions. Located between Lisbon and Porto, this city is worth a visit: there you will find one of the oldest academic institutions in Europe. In the summer, there are also many local festivals: in May you can enjoy the eight-day-long fiesta, the Burning of the Ribbons (Queima das Fitas) and in July the Festas da Rainha Santa, which highlights live choral street music and fireworks. Sibiu, Romania

The Romanian citadel city of Sibiu was built in the 12th century, and it is a perfect destination if you love Gothic architecture. You can walk through rustic stone staircases and archways or admire the Brukenthal Palace with its museum's collections, some of the oldest in the world. But Sibiu is also known as a bohemian city and has a lovely nightlife. Szeged, Hungary

The name of the city comes from the Hungarian word sziget and means 'island': this small city is located an island created by the river Tisza. It is a dynamic student's city with 18 high schools, and it hosts the famous Open Air Plays of Szeged on May 21 since 1931. It is a very green city with many gardens and parks and the old town has amazing palaces. Szeged Budget Hostel is the perfect place to discover this city: open only during the summer period, from April to October, it's located near a lake and the biggest sport park where you can play football or tennis, and also enjoy a lot of other outside and inside sport activities.

Groningen, Holland

Groningen is a University City and is known as the city with the youngest average population in the Netherlands. Located close to the coast, it is a perfect place for everybody who loves beaches, with its sand banks and dunes. In the city center there are numerous historic buildings and countless shops and boutiques. In Groningen you can also visit the Menkemaborg in Uithuizen and its amazing gardens. Malaga, Spain

Český Krumlov, Czech Republic

History takes the center stage in Český Krumlov: the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has amazing castles. This small Czech town began as a medieval mining village, and still retains much of its original architecture. In the Český Krumlov Castle there is a famous Baroque theatre that hosts many festivals including the Five-Petalled Rose Festival, a unique medieval event. Hostel Postel is perfect place to enjoy all the beauty and glamor of this city since it is located in the historical town of the center. There is also a nice romantic courtyard with greenery and outside sitting under the umbrellas to relax with friends.

Lovarn, Croatia

On the amazing Kvarner Bay, surrounded by the green hills, near to Opatija you will find the amazing city of Lovran. This town is surrounded by the tales, pine trees and Ucka Mountain and is perfect for everybody who loves the Adriatic Sea. It is a very attractive town with amazing examples of Austro-Hungarian architecture where you can stroll through the narrow streets; it is a wonderful place to explore. Lindau, Germany

In the south of Germany you will find the beautiful island town of Lindau, situated in the border triangle of Germany, Austria and Switzerland on the picturesque Lake Constance. It is the most south-westerly corner of Bavaria and an amazing place for everybody who loves nature. Traveling to Lindau couldn't be easier; it is connected to the mainland by a railway dam and the lake bridge. Kaunas, Lithuania

Kaunas is a vibrant city with an interesting Old Town since it was a successful river-trading town in the Middle Ages. Today it is a modern student city, with fine architecture, plenty of museums, vibrant nightlife and a lot of interesting attractions. Very famous is the Museum of Devils with its collection of 2000-odd devil statuettes, collected by landscape artist Antanas Žmuidzinavičius since 1876.
